Great hoppy beer. Thick oily hop residue in flavor.....a good thing. Similar to the Russian river IPAs. Hops trickled down tongue and lasted and lasted. Awesome to say least. Broncowaldon (129) - Oceanside, California, USA - JAN 20, 2015
Awesome IPA pine herbal aroma, golden color some what cloudy, wonderful mango pine needle hop flavor! Another great one from this brewery. Eighty6 (20) - Arizona, USA - JUN 25, 2015
Poor Vato in Carlsbad location. 9% poured in full pint on Nitro??? Very creamy head, smooth with solid lacing. Can’t get over this. Aroma of freshly cut lawn, slightly piney. Taste goes with mouthfeel, back to nitro presentation. Smooth dank and pleasing, peppery in the end. elihapa (1554) - Honolulu, Hawaii, USA - JUL 12, 2009
On tap at Carlsbad. Goodness gracious, this is a phenomenal beer, and a relative hidden gem from what I can tell on RB. Appears gold with a fizzy head, just a shade or two darker than the Jetty IPA. Aroma has some early tangerine and citrus zest, rounded by floral hops that suggest Pikake (jasmine). The flavor on this DIPA is so robust. This is assertive flowery notes in the beginning, then some interesting papaya-bubble gum hints of sweetness that never actually “sweeten” this DIPA. Its all there for depth. The palate is medium-bodied, just full enough to let you know this beer is to be respected, but light enough to complement the citrusy flavors. UPDATED: APR 15, 2007 Cask at The Linkery, San Diego. Pale orange cloudy beer. Aroma is huge and is full of dank wet piny hops. Sweet fruitiness and juiciness also hold up the rear, showing apricot, peach, pear and mango over a soft lean pale malt base. The texture is very soft allowing the hoppiness to completely wash over the palate, unobstructed by heavy carbonation. Sweet fruity hops, some wet leafiness with a touch of soft sweetness and even a bit of wheaty character. On the finish the sweet interplay of pale malt and tropical hops gives way to a moderate bitter character. A great IIPA.

Lot of floral characters throughout this. A good floral aroma dn first bite. The hops are showing strong at the very end. Great. ajm (1072) - Los Angeles, California, USA - JAN 26, 2009
UPDATED: AUG 30, 2009 Tap at Carlsbad. This guy is that fire. Nice full aroma - grapefruit, old orange and resin. Color is deep orange like Hop Stoopid. Flavor is like the aroma but full and juicy. This has it all: the bright fruit character of Alpine Expo, the dank nasty weed craziness of Cobrahood. In essence, this beer is a southern version of Pliny the Elder - I don’t know why people don’t go nuts over it. Dickinsonbeer (5072) - Hoboken, New Jersey, USA - DEC 6, 2009
GABF 09. One of my favorite DIPA;s of the whole fest. Had to go back at least 3-4 times each session to get more. Pours a hazy yet bright orange with a nice tacky off white head- crazy lace. Aroma is intense hoppiness- prickly almost- similar to the hop dust or resin you get at the end of a bag- lemon, tons of dank weed, citrus, some tropical, lots of fresh cut pine and white cedar oiliness with just a slight carapils caramel thing going on. Flavor is 99% hops- overshadowing the malt which is nice- resinous, oily hops all the way through- gets a bit sharp and harsh but in a good way, tons of citrus, pine sap , resin and fresh minty piney weed- with oily grapefruit in the end - almost seems hairy and fibrous- how fresh the hop resin was in this- kickass. mustangjoe (183) - redondo beach, California, USA - SEP 6, 2010
On tap PP Carlsbad. Wow, Hops, hops, and more hops. This one came close to knocking me off my feet, thank goodness I was sitting down. A delicious DIPA. Worth the trip to Carlsbad. peteinSD (1469) - San Diego, California, USA - JAN 30, 2012
Freshie batch on tap @ PP Carlsbad. Golden, glowing yellow in the glass with a slick of white foam. Aroma is dank, resinous pine, tropical fruit, bitter hops, sweet honey, and a bready malt backbone. Taste is a swirl of resinous hops, pine, citrus/fruit, honey, and a relatively light and bready malt backbone with some lingering alcohol and bitterness. Mouthfeel is clean and sharp. Bad ass hoppy beer.
