On tap at Toronado. Pours a deep dark brown with a small off-white head. Nice burnt aroma, of malt, wood, pine, and dark chocolate. Taste is smooth and creamy, of burnt toast, chocolate and toffee. Lingering burnt creaminess. Nice.

On nitro tap at PIzza Port Carlsbad, 7/9/09. Pours near black with nice frothy head (nitro). Wonderful coffee and caramel aromas. Very well balanced porter that has very smooth mouthfeel and a nice coffee and nut finish. This is a great porter.

From tap at the Carlsbad brewpub. Pours dark brown and black with a small, tan and lasting creamy head. Hard roasted malty aroma. Flavour too is hardroasted, light coffeeish and vague dark chocolate flavoured too. Lasting roasted and dark malty flavoured into the far finish.

UPDATED: JUL 22, 2009 Served nitro with no warning and we got a pitcher of it. Fuck that. Pours a nitro black with big nitro head. Semi-roasty nose with chocolate and yesterdays cold coffee. Nitro watery flat mouthfeel. Creamy chocolate milk flavors, thats all I can taste now that my head is full of nitrogen. Gets lower scores for appearance and palate because you fucks put nitrogen in my beer without my consent.

Draught at the brewpub. Looked and felt like nitro, but I didnt get it so I cant be sure. Black color with a big, creamy light beige head. Somewhat muted roasted grain and light chocolate aroma. Roasty and coffee flavors, but pretty sweet with lower bitterness. Medium bodied with smooth, lower carbonation. The sweetness doesnt show in the mouthfeel. Like liquid chocolate beer but not at all heavy.

Draft in Carlsbad. A brown beer with a red shine. The aroma has notes of soy sauce and caramel. The flavor is sweet with notes of soy sauce, and caramel as well as light notes of roasted malt, leading to a soy sauce finish combined with a light note of roasted malt, reminds me of an ice cream topping.

Tap at Port Carlsbad. Pours a full deep brown black with a small brown head. Nice pale like malts at first and the roasted notes grow as the beer warms. Nice coffee flavors build as well. A solid porter.

On tap at Pizza Port in Carlsbad. Pours a deep brown, almost black with a thick, insanely creamy, chalky brown head that takes forever to dissipate and actually never goes away. Lots of thick, creamy lacing. Aroma of soft, chalky chocolates and roasts with a light astringent citrus and sour cherry. Like a mix between a porter and a dry stout. Flavor is smooth and creamy, rich chocolates and dry roasts. Some sweeter malts and nice, balancing, slightly sour cherries and citrus. Very creamy, medium bodied palate that finishes smooth with a rich and sweet, soft roast aftertaste. Overall, not quite a porter, not quite a dry stout...although it leans more towards the dry stout side of things. Very tasty with lots of smooth, creamy flavor.
