Nice beer overall. Nice malty sweetness and a little alcohol punch. I got drunk pretty quickly. Nothing really special to talk about, just a pretty standard example of the style.

(Draught) Pours a clear amber-brown body with a small beige head. Aroma of roasted grain, peat, nuts, grass, and caramel. Flavor of caramel, peat, light fruit, and toffee.

Clear reddish brown hue, toffee nose. Big malty body, burnt treacle and bread, a little burnt bitterness in the finish. Decent scotch ale.

On tap @ Toronado SF. A pretty solid big scotch ale, that does come across as hot. Has some nice fig and dark fruit malitness and still finishes dry.

papajohn (1340) - San Diego (Mira Mesa), California, USA - AUG 30, 2010
On [email protected] location: Dark brown (rootbeer) color with a small beige head. Aroma is rich caramel with a little smoke. Flavor starts rich and malty with dark fruit. I detect some light milk chocolate notes and hints of smoke and nuts with a soft bitterness in the finish. Medium body is smooth and creamy with light carbonation.

nightrider (754) - encinitas, California, USA - APR 11, 2010
On tap at Pizza Port Carlsbad. Brown color with thin off white head. Smells of caramel nuttiness. Medium/full body with a super smooth mouthfeel on your tongue. Rich flavors of sweet sugary malt with low bitterness. Good long finish. Very good beer and good drink this any time.

3.8
CaptainCougar (7634) - Columbia, Maryland, USA - MAR 1, 2010
On tap at PP Carlsbad: Pours a transparent copper amber with a small ring of frothy off-white head. Aroma of sweet toasty dark caramel with some smoky peat and a touch of earthy hops and light fruitiness. Starts with good fullness and rich dark caramely sweetness with some light smoky notes and good authenticity before a drier, earthy semi-bitter peat finish. A nice Scotch ale.

From tap at Carlsbad. Pours clear and golden deep amber with a small tan head. Aroma is dark roasted and malty. Sweet fruity and roasted toffee malty flavoured. Mild fruity and dark caramelish base flavoured into the finish with a smooth fruity accent. Nice.

UPDATED: JAN 19, 2010 On tap at Beachwood BBQ. A huge pour given. Dark brown color with a one-finger beige head and some lacing. Aroma is a little muted but still good. Caramel, roast, and wood, maybe some mild fruitiness. Flavor is much more intense, with caramel, toffee, nuts, wood/earth, and some peatiness. Medium on the body with a very smooth mouthfeel. This won GABF gold I hear, and it definitely is a solid example of this style.
