Draft sample at PP Carlsbads Barrel Blast. Muddy orange/brown pour, off-white head. Rich caramel malts, toffee, oak, chocolate, sweet bread, dark fruit, grape, and warming booze. Thick, creamy mouth feel. This was excellent.

On tap at Pizza Port Carlsbads Barrel Blast. Brandy version. Pours with a very murky (muddy), deep brown body with a lasting off-white ring. Aroma of caramel, chocolate, biscuity, bready and graham cracker. Flavors of oatmeal, cereal, chocolate, graham cracker, malted milk and whey protein. Odd beer.

A: The pour is a sort of muddled dark brown color with some amber hints to it. Not really much in the way of head formation. S: Good vanilla aroma starts this one off with lots of barrel influence. Caramel, mild roast, chocolate, and a decent peatiness are present as well. Not too much booze, but a bit of a brandy aroma. T: Again, great vanilla flavor, moderate brandy and oak flavors, too. Sweet, creamy, milk chocolate, and caramel give this beer a nice sweetness. The peat character is not as pronounced as it was on the nose, however. M: The body is medium with a somewhat low level of carbonation, but its quite creamy and smooth. D: A good balanced barrel aged beer. The barrel makes itself noticed, but the brandy and oak flavors are not over done or overwhelming.

Appearance: Pours a cocoa cola brown with a dense retaining foamy beige head.

Aroma: Vanilla and grape drink.

Taste: Vinous dark malt, wood, dark chocolate and spicy hops.

Mouthfeel: Full bodied and thick. Creamy.

Overall: An amazing treat. This rivals any of the best barrel aged malt bombs out there. Holy crap.

A damn fine beer, I would drink it until my liver gave way. Nothing offensive at all, just beer bliss.

On-tap at the PP day at Toronado SD on New Years Eve. Pours murky brown with a small white head. Smells mellow with slight sweetness. Lots of wood character and booze. Tastes kind of subdued, sweet and malty with lots of wood character. Mostly straight wood though and just a hint of vanilla and a good amount of booze. Malty caramel sweetness lingers. Medium, slightly watery body and good carbonation.

On tap at the PP Real Ale Fest. Dark caramel brown color, with pale chocolate hues and a finger of creamy beige head. Vanilla bomb. Huge, oaky vanilla nose that compliments the rich malt melanoidin characters of the base beer. Layer upon layer of caramel and fruity malt characters intertwine with the vanilla and faint brandy booziness. Full bodied, softly carbonated mouthfeel with a rich, silky texture. Lots of chewy caramelized malt sugars create a pleasantly sweet flavor. Faint chocolate flavors add further complexity, along with a hint of raisin, which the fruitiness of the brandy compliments nicely. As with the aroma, the vanilla barrel characters stand out most prominently, which I find to be pleasing when paired with the clean, caramelized malt flavors of the beer.

On draft at the 2008 San Diego Strong Ale Fest, it was a bit over carbonated and too sweet for me. I prefer the regular way heavy
