"It’s hard to believe we’ve been slingin’ pizzas for 20 years since March of 1987! That’s about 7300 days or 175,200 happy hours of fun! We’re excited to celebreate by brewing and bottling up a beer to share a special toast! Swami’s IPA is one of our best selling beers. Many have called it the original San Diego IPA. As such, it’s been a big part of Pizza Port Solana Beach since we installed the brewing system in 1992. A bold IPA hopped to the extreme with galena, Centennial and Cascade hops. We also add a healthy dose of dry hops in the serving tank and always serve it unfiltered. Thank you so much to everyone who has been sharing the memories along the unbelievable way...Cheers!"

Formerly 7.4% when brewed at Solana Beach location.

On tap at PP Solana beach, listed as their own IPA, but w/o the "harvest" descriptor. Orange amber color. Tight frothy head. Med-high early boil bitterness. Muted hop aroma, except through the back of the nose. Sometimes I lose smell sensation in a pizza place. Is it smell overload, or lower carbonation. Still very good, and reasonably easy to drink.

It’s like a rest after a hard swim. I just finished Pliny the Younger and Expo Hoppiness, and this is so much milder. Poured a deliciously mellow, couldy, burnt orange from a cask. Quickly dying head. A little watery, but otherwise good.

Nice smelling, fairly floral and a decent amount of hops. Pretty medium body, fairly bitter and has an aftertaste that I don’t love.

Swami’s IPA is a towering monolith in a city that’s filled with hoppy monuments. Countless West Coast brewers were directly inspired it or made attempts to blatantly imitate it. There are California beers that were once thought to be hop-forward and now seem tame by today’s standards. That isn’t true of Swami’s. This beer is still a standard for the style. It’s hazy and yellow. Aggressive, dank, and bitter with pine, grapefruit, orange, mango, and pineapple notes. Resinous feel without even the slightest hint of alcohol. The brewers still recognize it as their go-to IPA, and there’s little point in questioning why. It’s here to stay.

Can from The Beerhive. Clear golden body with a thick off-white head. Steady carbonation. Faint lacing. Aroma of parma violets, herbs and dried orange peel. Flavour of watermelon, pine and lemon jelly. Medium body with an oily texture. Soft fizz. Well balanced and easy to drink. Quite pricey though at £6 a can.
