On tap at Miller's Pub in the Loop. Attractive black pour, brown head leaving big coats of lace. Chocolate, caramel, some molasses in the taste. Roast. And a bit of fudge. Nose more subtle. Sweeter than the taste. Not much alcohol presence. Blend is good. Finishes slightly to the bitter side of bittersweet. 14 Drake (14441) - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA - JAN 10, 2018

UPDATED: DEC 5, 2017 On tap at Pollyanna’s station as their bonus beer for the 18th Annual Chicagoland Brewpub Shootout. Dispensed to my fest glass showing a black/brown hue, with a persistent layer of brownish tan head foam, and frothy spots & streaks of lacing. The nose was roasted and mainly cocoa, with some coffee on the back, and a light scent of char. A little less than full bodied, but rich on the palate, with soft carbonation, a bit of silkiness to the mouthfeel, and bitterness that was dry, roasted, earthy, and lingering. Kudos!

Flight pour on tap at the brewery (Lemont, IL). Pours a deeper mysterious blackish hue, opaque body and stark colors taper out to just a bit or brownish glow on the edges and bottom. Tannish head is sizable, firm with a thicker ringer remaining atop and lacing well. Aromas are firmly toasty and roasty, a bit bitter and acrid with touches of sweetness giving some jabs beneath. Caramel, gentle dark fruit and cocoa hit the nostrils. Initial shows a medium body, a bit lighter than I expected but not thin. Silky malts glide over the palate at first with a slowly growing firmer roast and bitter earth element eventually overcoming. A touch of ash, coffee, and earth. A bit of sweetness gives it a touch of girth, cocoa and touches of caramel up the body and add a counterpoint. The backend and finish has pop, trailing bitter and roasty finish. Nice stuff, a bit lighter overall.. It’ll be interesting how this stands the test of time in a barrel (and if a shorter aging period or back blending is used). However this is on point, not overdone, and flavorful with good flow. While the nose seems a bit underdone that could just be the cold. However it certainly cuts through that on the palate. Nice. crossovert (14354) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - MAR 22, 2015
Draft. Black pour. Not a huge aroma the flavor though is phenomenal. Some black licorice, gin and tonic, nice stuff. kaser (6471) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - MAR 18, 2015

Roasty and hoppy. Aroma is mostly cocoa and coffee. The flavor is distinctively Pollyanna. I get coffee, bread, nuts, cereal and light smoke. Warming alcohol on the finish.
