COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Hommel is the local abbreviation of humulus, from the botanical name for the hop plant. Confusingly, it also means bumble bee in Flemish. Poperings Hommelbier is a hoppy, golden-bronze, ale. It is made from a blend of winter, summer and aromatic pale malts.

Draught @ Ris Ras Filliongongong, Århus
Pours clear golden with a white head. Aroma has notes of malt, wheat, yeast and sugar. Taste is medium to heavy sweet and light to medium bitter with a long bready, caramel finish. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.

Bottle at the Elm Tree from Belgian National Day Festival. Light golden and almost clear. A small foamy white head leaves considerable lacing. Candy sugar yeast, pear drops, notes of coriander in the aroma. Further olfactory probing reveals touches of butterscotch, bubblegum and applesauce. Taste is initially simple and sticky sweet, with yeasty flavours to the fore. The ensuing soft bitterness is welcome, giving more depth to the taste. Concentrated resiny hop bitter finish. Fruit caramel, orchard fruit and sourdough dance in the aftertaste. Thin to medium creamy body. Heavy carbonation, but it feels brilliant on the lips. Surprised as to how much I liked this (a lot)!

A bottle from Beers of Belgium, shared with Dad whilst on leave. Aroma: fresh bread, fruit. Appearance: hazy amber, very generous lively head. Palate: medium-bodied and creamy, lively carbonation. Long, predominantly sweet finish. Taste: very well-balanced, medium sweet, a noticeable kick of booze at the end. Great beer, glad I bought the 750ml. bottle.
