COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Hommel is the local abbreviation of humulus, from the botanical name for the hop plant. Confusingly, it also means bumble bee in Flemish. Poperings Hommelbier is a hoppy, golden-bronze, ale. It is made from a blend of winter, summer and aromatic pale malts.

UPDATED: JAN 28, 2014 Poured from a 750ml into a snifter, hazy gold in color, aroma similar to a farmhouse, taste a bit more like a wit than what I was expecting. A bit floral, but not overkill like Orval or Triple Karmeliet. Not bad, glad I tried it. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

250ml bottle pours cloudy orange with fine off-white head. Aromas of apple, toffee, yeast and gingerbread. Tastes of dried fruit, caramel malt, grassy characters, Belgian yeast and spices. Full bodied with just the right alc vol at 7.5%. Crisp clean finish with very mild bitterness and some residual fruit sugars. One of my go-to Belgian ales. Magic.

Thuis uit een flesje. Enorm veel wit schuim, wat later wel wat inzakt, maar toch goed aanwezig blijft. Troebel goud/oranje kleur. Aangename smaak, licht zoet, beetje vlak zelfs. Zoals gezegd: aangenaam.

Jabic (745) - Plainfield, Vermont, USA - JAN 11, 2018
UPDATED: JAN 12, 2018 Ar: Mossy, herbal hops; slight lemon and grass; a bit of almond and sherry; some cracker. Ap: Golden; hazy with discrete particulates; medium-large off-white head with good retention, settles into a frothy cap of foam. T: Pronounced oxidation; sharp sherry, old malt syrup; medium bitterness; black pepper; almond and sherry on the finish. P: Medium body with very high carbonation; medium-dry finish. O: This beer has seen better days--heavily oxidized, so hard to really taste the base beer; a bit odd, given that it has a best by date of April 2018 printed on the label.

People who are fond of hoppy Belgians like XX Bitter will likely find an ideal drinking companion in Hommel. This brew has a generally clear golden pour and a frothy head. Earthy, yeasty, spicy, and hoppy aromas. Leafy, floral, peppery, clove-like, and grassy flavors. A bit of cracker-like malt. A crisp, refreshing feel. There's a great deal of earth flavor in here without tasting completely like yard trimmings. Excellent.

fkoolen (1427) - Maastricht, NETHERLANDS - DEC 4, 2017
UPDATED: DEC 4, 2017 Bottle at home. Almost clear golden colour, big foamy white head. Grassy nose, light citrus. Taste is very crisp and clean, grassy hops, light malty base, light honey: great balance. Lively carbonation, medium body.

Bottle. Cloudy appearance with sediment. Tiny bubbles on the head. Dark orange. Banana aroma, some dusty notes, light floral elements. Some spice. Flavor has a bit of cardboard, dry bitterness. Floral hops, grassy.Bubbly mouthfeel. Yeast character still plays a part in this. An older bottle, some of the hop vibrancy may have dropped off.
