Hommel is the local abbreviation of humulus, from the botanical name for the hop plant. Confusingly, it also means bumble bee in Flemish. Poperings Hommelbier is a hoppy, golden-bronze, ale. It is made from a blend of winter, summer and aromatic pale malts.

Tasty and bitter beer with a nice appearance and fair alcohol percentage. Got it in various locations around Belgium. Mostly the western regions sell it in the supermarket. Comes is 25cl and 75cl bottles. After pouring the beer, a fair amount of foams appears and stays for quite some time. A bit like Duvel but not so much. Taste: herbs, hops ofcourse and bitter, much CO2 but functional as the tastes fly around. All over a very tasty beer with enough alcohol to enjoy!

Visual: Pours almost clear pale deep orange with suspended bits of yeast, super clustered activity like a snow globe, 0.5cm lasting frothy head.

Nose: light sweet floral liquid barley malt, light apple notes. (lvl-5)-pungency

Attack: super fine-smooth CO2, crisp bite

Mid-palate: metallic-lager liquid barley malt, (lvl-4-sweetness), light short tangy

Finish: grainy barley malt exhale, honey, subtle light bitter hops

Summary: Unbelievable that this is 7.5% - too smooth to be true. Not a ton of pronounced flavour but a superbly executed balance of ultra-creamy mouthfeel, barley-grain, plus a little extra citrus-floral notes from the hops that compliment the whole experience. 3/4 through and still amazed at how smooth it is.

Belle prsentation.

Trs bien faite.

Bought at drankdozijn.nl in a 750ml bottle. Appearance: yellow beer with a nice white head, bit fluffy. Aroma: citrus, malt and a bit of toffee. Taste: nice crisp fresh taste. A bit of the typical Belgian yeast. Good carbonation, not overdone. This is not a real heavy beer, so good for the summer evening. Matches a barbecue. Love it!

Bottle from Nisa, Hebden Bridge. Clouded orange brown with a thin head. Has yeasts and pale malts in its nose, grittier in this respect due to its evident strength. Fairly smooth in the palate.

Pours a hazy golden orange from the bomber with fluffy white head that leaves moderate lace. Aroma of light herbal earth and a hint of Belgian light fruity esters. Taste follows, clean and crisp, really nice and balanced. Mild, effervescent, nice.
