COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

- Daniel Granath, bryggmstare

Originally only a single batch was made named "Poppels Projekt 001 Dubbel IPA".
By popular demand and winning "Best Swedish Beer 2013" by members vote at BeerSweden was decided to continue in production, though with the same recipe as the project beer.

New batch was released March 1, 2014, at Systembolaget under the (website) name "Poppels Dubbel IPA (nr 88888)".

330ml bottle. Cloudy, amber colour with average to huge, soft, fluffy, mostly lasting, moderately lacing, off-white head. Intense, piney, resinous and citrusy hoppy aroma, notes of lemon, pineapple, caramel malty background. Taste is moderately sweet caramel malty, piney hoppy, sweet-ish notes of orange, hints of liquorice. Well balanced, holistic, very harmonious.

From tap at Gollem in Antwerp, shared by 77ships, thanks. Swedish DIPA with thickly lacing, dense, egg-white, moussy head and lightly hazy orange blonde robe with somewhat amberish hue. Aroma of orange juice, dried mango, green banana, biscuit, some lychee, strawberry, sweet white wine, cereals, flowers. Fruity onset with hints of mandarin, passion fruit and yellow kiwi, fizzy and even slightly stinging carbo, smooth and full body. Nice biscuity malt middle with a cereally aspect to it, leading to a long, aromatic hop finish, peppery and very grapefruity, with floral, light pine and some dried exotic fruit notes, supported by warming, gin-like alcohol. Very decent DIPA, recommendable as an introduction to the style Id say, in being a bit stereotypical and less exuberant than many others in this style.

Draft glass @ Gollem. Clear darker orange with creamy off-white head, nice lacing. Nose is mellow yeast, herbal pine resin, thick dried orange peel. Taste has barely any fruity characteristics, all bitter herbal pine resin & dried orange peel, quite bitter, bit too yeasty, dough dough, rahter malty, lingering bitter finish. This is a bit like many "exterme" USA IPA used to be 5 - 7 years ago. Interesting blast from the past, feels out of line, out of synch now. Body is orange peel. I prefer the currnet hop bomb DIPAs but this is an interesting & solid throwback. This is actually apparently a pretty recent recipe.

Mango tropical feast, with a touch of caramel, really nice and oily body that covers well the alcohol, one of the great imperial IPA s.

Bottle from Systembolaget. Sweet caramel and citrusy tropical fruits on the nose, a bit of sweet candy ( kind of like sweet licorice, unexpected). Hazy, light orange colour, white head with tight bubbles. Very sweet, medium bitterness. Medium body with a bit sticky mouthfeel, average carbonation, finishes sweet with some bitterness. Its quite sweet, but not too imbalanced in my mind. Ive had it multiple times before, and I knew I was going to like it. Ive had better, but its definitely one of the better ones from Sweden, and I always really enjoy it when I have it. I find the sweet, fruity flavours really pleasant. Went really well with some salty popcorn in front of a movie.
