Tap at Lost Abbey. Pours golden to light orange with webby lace. Incredibly grassy, biscuity, refreshing, herbal hoppy pale ale with noble hop squashiness and citrus peel fresh bitterness. Super quenching biscuity malt, amazing hop balance. Wow. Only surpassed by the Dead Feather Moon which rivals the best of Victory’s fabled pilsners. Really, really good. On tap at Pour House. Pours a glowing golden color, with sticky white lacing and medium head/body. Aromas are filled with citrus, oranges, grapefruit, malts, pine, and some ashy grain notes. Growler shared, much thanks to Dmac. Feel honored that they brewed this to celebrate coming into NJ. Pours out a decently clear golden color with a small white head. Aroma is of clean and crisp malts, citrus rind, some light pine bitterness. Taste is of some very nice hoppy citrus notes, tropical fruits, light pine, with a good solid crisp malty backbone. Tap at the source. Hazy yellow pour with a slight white head. Aroma is pleasant hops, some type of dry malt I cannot quite place, and a clean grain finish. Taste is bitter hops up front with light grass and a very soft malt sweetness. Clean mouthfeel. Quite the badass hoppy beer at 5% abv. Seriously, stand this up to a Sierra Nevada Pale Ale and this crushes that beer (no disrespect intended to Sierra). Very well done and I’d love to see more one-off hoppy pales from Lost Abbey/Port. On tap at the brewery. Pours with a clear golden body with a large white head. Aromas are of mango, grapefruit, tropical fruit. All hops, mild caramel. Intense. Flavors are of tea, herbal hops, fruit, citrus and dank. Lively bubbles and dry. Mild esters, minimal malt, good. Pale Ales seem to be indistinguishable from IPAs in San Diego these days. I’m okay with that.

Poured from a draft into an imperial pint at Hooley’s in La Mesa, Calif., on Jan. 23. Color was hazy pale orange. About an inch of head. Light white lacing on the top. Good looking circular film on the side.
Smelled pale grainy notes first. Surprisingly also got citrus notes in there, too. Grainy and grassy as well.
Taste was similar to the nose. Pale grainy malts up front, giving way to citrus (couldn’t pick one fruit) after. Very bitter and that stayed on my tongue after.
Medium body. Oily texture. Average carbonation. Bitter finish.

Draught Very clear golden beer, under thick-set dense, off-white head. Citric and passion fruit, intense aromas, also valerian (blackcurrant leaf). Dry-bitter, finishes very dry and on a mineral touch. Retronasal, the passionfruit hosp return. Feels quite carbonated - brewers speak of Burtonised liquor - dry finish, bit empty-ier. Growler from Cranbury BuyRite. I figured this was a 3 day old growler so it would need a vigorous pour, at first there was just a little bit of soap bubble head but then all of a sudden 2/3 of my glass transformed into bright white tight bubbly head. Body was a nice mostly clear orange/copper body. Aroma was citrus hops, dry grains, earth, dirty lemons. Medium to lighter body with average carbonation and a short lived bitter finish. Flavor isn’t quite as good as the aroma with a dirty citrus dominating followed by grains and then some green hop comes. Pours a clear golden color with a finger of white head. A really nice fruity hop aroma. Lots of grapefruit and citrus as well as some sweet tropical fruit notes. A hint of bread in the background. The flavor is more of the same. Light pine bitterness to go with pineapple, grapefruit, and orange peel. Mild bread flavor and sweetness. Light bodied with medium carbonation.
