Bottle from JohnC. Pour was pitch black-brown, even a little choco colored thin head on the top that fizzled quickly but left behind a nice ring, regenerable with a swirl, active carbonation in the mouthfeel later. The aroma was oaky wood, chocolate, maple, bourbon. The flavor was all of that, some molasses and licorice under there, just a wonderful BA brew, the best one I’ve had in a while, beer was actually there. Mouthfeel had a nice tingle from the carbonation and alcohol, yet this thing was a beer. Man, that finish was outstanding, perfect highlight to the whole experience. Great stuff, and thanks to John for this one! Top 50, no doubt. bfeldmann (1050) - Wilmington, Delaware, USA - MAY 2, 2008

UPDATED: NOV 15, 2009 Bottled at home. Opaque black, no head whatsoever. Super complex nose, malts, caramel, dark fruit, liquorice, liquor and much more. Complex flavor as well, pretty sweet but the flavor is developing during every sip, bitter and alcoholic, but also malts, coffee, liquorice and some wood-notes. This stuff is extremely good. Thanks you caesar for suggesting to buy this, i just can’t get enough of this. jimmiec (122) - Louisiana, USA - AUG 9, 2010
12.7-oz bottle Lost Abbey (2010) - Aroma: bourbon, vanilla, oak, maple syrup; Appearance: opaque, jet black color, brown head, some laces; Flavor: salty, sweet, bourbon, molasses, brown sugar, cherries, chocolate, fudge ; Mouthfeel: full bodied, silky, soft carbonation; Overall: awesome, wonderful strong alcoholic (no harshness) beer with extreme of oak, vanilla, and bourbon aromas and flavors, which leads the imagination towards cherries, dark chocolate, fudge, and dark fruits. The only reason this beer is hard to drink is because you’ll want to keep smelling it. Definitely worth the money. NikkTwist (3225) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - JUL 1, 2013
The normal Old Viscosity is already ambrosia but this one is a step beyond. Have had it several times in past years (only ever on draft) but this is my first time rating it. Draft at Monks Cafe. Pitch black pour with a dark brown head. Rich chocolate bourbon notes off the top. Swoon-worthy. Perfect silky body. Deep chocolate mousse. Creme brule. Charcoal grill. Burnt marshmallows. Red leather. Fig. Molasses. Heady alcohol, but so creamy a finish that it merely provides a glorious haze to the experience. Probably my favorite stout of all time (next to maybe only the Bourbon Barrel Angel Share, which is a close cousin.) Nearly a perfect mix of pitch black dark with a rich chocolate cream. The Bourbon only heightens the experience. SEEK THIS OUT!!!

Bottle via mailorder from Joey at South Bay Drugs And Liquor.
Pours like motor oil 10,000 miles past when it should have been changed with a small yet bubbly light brown head.
Aroma of bourbon, chocolate, roasted coffee beans, toasted barley, malt, and some hints of fruits.
Wow, this rich bourbony beast has a nice decadent chocolate, roasty coffee, bourbon all in wonder flavor going on. The mouthfeel is very full and amazing and the flavors all come together into a blissful co-existance. Notes of fruits linger at the finish but don’t overpower the other desirable flavors of this beast.
I’m very glad that I chose this as #100, it did not let me down in any way. This simply put is an amazing brew in a class of it’s own. Simply an amazing world class brew!!!
UPDATED: AUG 14, 2010 Draft at Teresa’s. Pours deep mahogany brown with an oily, slick surface and a razor thin white lacy head. Aroma is very similar to Angel’s Share; bourbon, oak, vanilla, caramel, toffee, brown sugar, and roasty malts. Body is full and rich, but not as thick as expected. Silky, slightly smokey palate. Finish has a touch of hop bitterness and a nice warming in the throat. Excellent American strong. andyhwcinc (1884) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - JUN 30, 2010
UPDATED: SEP 28, 2010 I purchased this for $16 for a single bottle from a liquor store in the San Diego area, consumed with a friend in Portland, OR. When I purchased this, it was something my future wife just threw in the basket because the RateBeer small advertisement next to it said 100 rating. When I was in line, I saw the price and almost put it back. I’m very happy I didn’t! Aroma consisted of brandy, chocolate, bourbon, vanilla, toffee, very sweet and it felt like there was 1000 aromas going on at the same time. Appearance is black with a thin brown head. Taste consisted of chocolate, very sweet, alcohol is definitely in the mix with a bourbon base, coconut, etc. As with the aroma, there’s about 1000 things going on with this beer and it’s very smooth...the ingredients aren’t fighting each other. Very happy that I was able to have this.
