Barrel-aged version of Port Brewing Santas Little Helper.
2009 will be the inaugural release of this winter time classic. After brewing the 2008 batch of Santa’s we thought “wonder what this would taste like aged in a bourbon barrel?”
2015 states 12% on label. Previous batches at 10% abv

Bomber bought through Brill & Co. Pours very dark brown, almost black, with a frothy pale mocha head that slowly dissipates while leaving some trace on the glass. Smell is sweet and malty with roasted malts, vanilla fudge, high quality dark chocolate, resinous wood, dark roast coffee, cedar, roasted coconut, raisins, alcohol, prunes and hints of Christmas fruit cake with brandy, Taste is sweet, tiny bitter and malty with roasted malts, dark roast coffee, dark chocolate, vanilla fudge, roasted coconut, resinous wood, cedar, raisins, prunes, alcohol and hints of sweet liquorice candy. Mouthfeel is round, slightly boozy and medium to full bodied. finish is sweet and slightly bitter with roasted malts, dark chocolate, dark roast coffee, vanilla fudge, coconut and hints of raisins and prunes. Decadently barrel aged and very sweet but I like it.

Piana obfita, drobna i dość trwała, barwa czarna, nieprzejrzysta. W zapachu piękna wanilia, kokos, lody czekoladowe, drewno... W smaku sporo słodyczy, głównie praliny, ciasto murzynek, kakao, karmel, wanilia, cappuccino... Goryczka palona, średnia, dość mocny bourbonowy alkohol w posmaku, niskie wysycenie, niezbyt tęgie ciało.
Bardzo dobre, intensywne piwo, wyraźnie wyczuwalne nuty beczki, bourbonu i ciemnych słodów, świetny balans słodyczy - paloności - goryczki. Może nieco brakło gęstości i ułożenia procentów - zapewne warto wrzucić rok na leżak i mamy sztosa ;)

W aromacie dużo kokosa. W smaku pumpernikiel i deserowa czekolada, do tego kakao i wanilia. Nie jest gęste i oblepiajace. Dobre, brakuje tylko trochę ciała. Trochę alkoholu od bourbonu czuć.

Vintage 2016, bottled in July 2016 as I suppose. Poured into snifter. Aroma: huge bourbon, loads of vanilla, belgian pralines. Pours jet black with minimal beige very fast reducing head. Very heavy sweetness, medium to heavy bitterness. Belgian pralines. Chocolates with bourbon infused. Vanilla. Oak barrel. WOW! Super full bodied,oily and sticky. Almost chewy actually. Totally flat. This is second Port Brewing barrel aged RIS I’m drinking. I find it much better than Older Viscosity. More dense, fuller, round and much more balanced. Perhaps I should’ve aged Older Viscosity at least few months more.

Geproefd @ RBBWG2017. Kleur is zwart zonder schuimkraag. Geur is alcoholisch, oud en zoet. Smaak is zoet, een beetje chocolade met een klein bittertje op het einde.

Batch 1 thanks to kraddel. Pours out oil black topped with a tan ring of a head. Nose is great big bourbon barrel vanilla roast malts coffee chocolate lots of sweet notes. Taste is more of the nice bourbon barrel vanilla molasses chocolate this has held on very well.

Sampled at the RBBWG 2017. Thnx for sharing, everyone ! Pours black, no real head. Smell is bourbon, oak. Taste is full, bourbon. Rich dark malts. Mild boozyness. very nice !

Alengrin (5369) - BELGIUM - FEB 26, 2017
Bomber shared by Kraddel at RBBWG 2017. Thin and loose, pale beige, quickly dissipating head over a black beer with cloudy burgundy edges. Aroma of chocolate liqueur, wet oak including vanilla, quite a lot of bourbon, leather, toffee, toasted peanuts, hazelnut, cinnamon. Sweet onset, candied fig and dried banana, softish carbo, deeply nutty and toasted malt body, lovely bittersweetness with a roasted coffeeish ’colour’ in the end, thoroughly (black) chocolatey, highly drinkable, beautiful finish with drying and aromatically vanilla-ish wood tannins, a punch of peppery hops, long-stretched chocolatey malt bittersweetness and, more than anything else, a lot of bourbon, in the form of warming booze - a bit too much so actually. Otherwise a thing of beauty.

Thank you kraddel! 650 ml. bottle sampled @ RBBWG VI (2017). 2009 Vintage! First batch apparently. Dark brown black with little to no head. nose is thick sweet bourbon goodness, molasses, sugar, candy, chocolate, pralines. Taste is mellow sweet maple syrup, candy, sweet sugar, nuts, thick bourbon, vanilla, sugar, pralines sweet. Really nice, body is slightly thinned out maybe but otherwise this has held up spectacularly, really nice beer.
