UPDATED: MAR 16, 2009 Bottle shared @ jbruss place. Pure chocolate and cacao powder in the aroma. Pure chocolate, coffee and oily hops in the flavor, the latter lingering on in the aftertaste. Delicious and well balanced. Re-rate 2008 bottle. Pitch black and opague. Coffee and milk chocolate in the aroma. Creamy roasty bitter flavor with coffee, anis and dark chocolate. Roastbitter finish with some berries. Laurel. Huge beer, but the alcohol is fairly well hidden.

Bomber. Pours inky black with a large foamy brown head. Good head retention. Aroma of chocolate, roasted malts and a bit of umami and green hops. The taste is roasted malts, dark chocolate, coffee, green coffee, mild hints of vanilla and caramel. Medium bodied, low carbonation, slight alcohol warmth. Straightforward, solid imperial stout.

(10/30/08) Bottle drank at my hostel in San Francisco. Black-colored with a small brown head. Aroma is roasty, full of dark fruits, also some pralines and liquor notes. Sweet fruity flavor with roasted malt, chocolate, licorice hints, yeast notes and lots of alcohol. Nice thick body. A bit too much alcohol in the flavor and it also seems like the fruitiness clashes with the roastiness instead of complementing it.

Aroma is heavy malt (molasses, chocolate, coffee), average hops (perfume), average yeast (leather) with notes of alcohol, prunes, and tar. Full bodied, creamy texture, average carbonation, and a bitter finish. Long duration, moderate sweetness, acidity, and bitterness.

Bottle, bought at lbutikken, Cph. Pours completely black with a medium, staying, creamy, cappucino head. Lovely coffee aroma with some sweet chocolate and vanilla mixed in. Low carbonation, great creamy mouthfeel. Flavour begins with a lot of coffee, rather dry, chocolate and light viniousness, cocoa, vanilla and a little caramel. Lovely dry aftertaste, really balanced. The alcohol gets more pronounced as it heats up, giving me that good, warming and tingling Christmas feeling :o]

from crackedkettle.com - black coloured and with a little elusive beige foam; fair aroma of roasted malts with strong notes of black chocolate, some licorice, prune and hop presence too; quite thick, solid malt backbone and a robust sweetness; some balance comes from the hops; bitter/sweet finish with strong notes of chocolate, licorice and a touch of vanilla
