COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Monumental IPA is a rich copper color, and is intensely hoppy. We add a special blend of American hops throughout the brewing and fermentation process to create a complex combination of aroma and flavor. This ale exhibits floral notes, flavors of citrus and resin, combined with delicious caramel background notes. The balanced style will keep the palate fresh and invite the drinker back into the glass.

Solid IPA for those who like a less bitter, hoppy IPA. Has a nice floral/herby thing going on that makes it quite different from the very hoppy IPA’s like Victory’s Hop Wallop and Hop Devil. I think this is perhaps Port City’s best to date.

355ml bottle. Amber pour. Little aroma, Flavor is malty and caramel, east coast, fucking shit, even a touch boozy. A mess.

Keg Brewdog Camden. Pours slightly hazy copy, foamy head. Sweet malty aroma, more of that in the taste. It’s a red ale more than an IPA. Rather metallic follow through. Ordinary.

Keg at Brewdog Shepherd’s Bush as Port City Monumental IPA. Hazy golden orange, still, slight haze, foamy white head leaves light lacing. Aroma is airy, some air freshener, musty old tangerine. Body is light, touch frothy with soft to tingly carbonation. Taste is resinous, some toffee and orange, Centennial hop vibe, sugary with a woody pine dimension. Has an assertive woody, pine, resin hop presence. Not bad.

UPDATED: FEB 2, 2017 (12oz bottle) AROMA: hops first, some typical IPA notes but also Pils/Saaz, sour, cheese, some cinnamon and cloves. Occasional note of sulfur/dirty water. APPEARANCE: medium dark, brownish Amber, some cloudiness, thick/creamy head. TASTE: roasty, burnt toast, coffee, significant ale characteristics, bitter herbs, dry bitter finish, soy sauce. PALATE: medium-heavy body, a little oily, dry dry dry bitter on cheeks. OVERALL: not your typical IPA. Strong roasted malt influence. And a darker/heavier hop finish. Definitely a beer for drinking more slowly. If you like hearty ales, you should like this. Much to like here, except for the one weird scent I picked up occassionally.

Mild and hoppy, balanced with a good bit of citrus and resin. Bitter, but a little thin overall. Good, but not a standout.
