A really good porter! It doesnt have the overly chocolate/caramel/sweetness that oftens ruins other porters. Great stuff.

Bottle. Nose of light coffee and roast malt, chocolate, cocoa, light tang. Pours dark brown-black with a rocky tan head. Taste light-medium sweet, very low bitterness, low tang but a nice feel of twist/semi-pucker in the mouth. Roast and chocolate as above. Fullish body. Very solid double porter, hides its alcohol well.

Opaque tootsie roll brown beer with a medium foamy beige head that is a bit darker around the perimeter. Roasted nose of caramelized sugar, candied nuts, and a hint of chocolate. Flavor is actually quite mild for a porter, but that doesnt mean its boring. It has a light toasty malt bitterness followed by some deep chocolate, and then ends with a subtle sourness. None of the flavors is particularly strong, but they offset each other nicely. A good porter for people who prefer lighter beers or those who want a change of pace.

No bottling information.
Appearance: The body appears an opaque black, but some murky chestnut hues can be seen slightly through the edges. Upon closer inspection I can clearly see sediment, which is odd. The head is tall an persistent though, very dense and pillowy. The head very slowly dissipates unevenly into a dense and short khaki covering.
Aroma: The aroma is a bit weak, but syrupy bittersweet chocolate comes to mind immediately with a sweet malt backing. Theres a very slight hint of roasted malts and some figs hiding in the back as well.
Taste: The intro quickly shows some fig and dark chocolate that runs through the mid-taste and almost completely through the finish. The chocolate becomes a bit sweet by the end and a light roast is noted. Throughout fig flavors underlie everything, accenting the dark malts nicely. A sweet, sort of sugary, chocolate lingers for a moment, perhaps some brown sugar. This leans sweet but its not too far off balance.
Palate: Full-bodied, almost chewy.
Overall: This is a solid porter and I would likely sing praise if I didnt know of Founders or Great Lakes. This holds its own with them and I wouldnt be surprised to see some prefer this beer. I find this to be skewed a little sweet, but very drinkable with a nice ABV. This would go well with light desert.
