Growler. Pours opaque black with a medium, frothy tan head, medium retention with good lacing. Aroma is smoked meat, wood, ash, roast malt, prunes, figs, and earthy hops. Flavor is dark and smoke malt dominant with light hops and bitterness, dark fruity esters and a sweet finish. Full body and medium carbonation.
5-6 oz draft pour at Adroit Theory, leftover keg from their Best Of Festival the day before. Black with tan head with some brown hues. Aromas of light smoke, caramel, dark chocolate. Tastes of medium to light smoke, caramel, toffee, dark chocolate, light booze, syrup. Medium body with a dry and syrupy finish. Low carbonation. Aging pretty well, the smoke and meat/bacon-like notes I remember from having this fresh have faded quite a bit bringing out some of the sweetness. Tap pour. Near black. Large smoked nose. Hidden porter notes. Smoke dominates flavor too. Some fruit cake. A tad harsh on the palate

At proletariat with my dad. Aroma is dirty smoke. Taste is huge smoky notes up front, that smooth out into a malty roasted malt bite, finishes with light smoke and some chocolate. Poured into snifter at brewery a very dark brown almost black. Light head with limited carbonation. Aroma is a nice level of smoke, dark chocolate, and roster malts. Draft at DoG Street. Black bodied with a short tan head. Aroma is loaded with smoked malts and smoky, processed meats. Hints of burnt wood and dark chocolate as well. Taste is smoked malt, smokey meats, dark chocolate, hints of coffee, smoldering wood and burnt caramel. Body is medium with a moderate carbonation and mild warmth. Draft: Noticeably woodless smoke and charcoal. Black, medium tan head. Sweet smoked malt. Smokiness is good, but a tad cloying.
