Pitch black with a creamy head. The aroma has light notes of roasted malt and chocolate. the flavour has notes of roasted malt, chocolate, cocoa, sweetness, a bit of coffee and a light bitterness. It’s smooth with a rather good body - uncomplicated and straight forward - thank you Tom/After4ever!! boboski (1095) - Alabama, USA - NOV 13, 2007
Pours a sexy deep brown, not quite opaque, with a pleasant sheen. A thin, off-white, slowly diminishing head recedes too slowly to keep track of. The aroma has awkward roast and chocolate integration at first, but quickly smoths to something appealing. Coffee and heavily roasted grains veer off in every direction as they stream from the glass. Flavor starts out on the sweet side, with medium to medium-high sweetness, low to mild bitterness, still loaded with roastiness. Coffee notes and bitterness build and are relatively sustained at a high level throughout, just after the initial sweetness of the first sip or two wears thin. Carbonation is just a little on the light side. Chalky chocolate doesn’t jive well with a somewhat watery texture. The finished product just doesn’t feel quite finished at all, it’s too grainy. It almost feels like a concentrate that’s been watered down a little too much. Quite drinkable but needs some fine tuning. DragonStout (1416) - Groveport, Ohio, USA - OCT 26, 2007

Bottle… This beer rocks!... Pitch black ale with a mid-sized, creamy, khaki head. Terrific retention. Rich aroma of pistachio and milk chocolate with diacetyl and vanilla undertones. Sweet, chocolaty flavor. Not complex, just rich and tasty. Medium to full-bodied with moderate carbonation. Sweet, chocolate and coffee finish. I haven’t checked my stats, but this has to be one of the very best dry stouts I’ve ever tasted! Underrated, in my book. Big props to Degarth for sharing this gem of a beer! Black with very little white head at the edges. Nice even nutty-roast aroma, mild dark chocolate. Light palate. More coffee becomes apparent in the aroma as the brew warms. Nice coffee taste with a smooth roasty finish.

Pours black, with a small off white head. Smels of big chocolate, some dark fruits, mild roast, anddark malts. Nice body, pretty big roasty chocolate really makes up most of the flavor characters. Nice and rich on the palate, with a slight bitterness in the finish and aftertaste. Pretty full flavored most of the way throughout. I think this beer is slightly underrated, I enjoyed it. Bottle. Roasted coffee and chocolate aroma with a light brown head and deep black color. Dried fruit and a great roasted malty flavor with somewhat clean finish. It is a little sweet and syrupy. I wish the alcohol was a little higher but besides this minor drawback, this is in my opinion a fantastic stout. dpjuart (1112) - Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA - SEP 29, 2007
7/10/07 Bottle, thanks for sharing, Nate. Dark Brown to Black, little head. Coffee and carmel nose, bit of malt with "weird" smell. Foamy off white head. Chocolate and carmel notes, with a very negative twang of lactic sourness. eh. scrizzz (2223) - Bothell, Washington, USA - AUG 23, 2007
UPDATED: SEP 3, 2007 Dark black, one inch head took time to rise up. Smells of toasted bread. Light bodied. Chocolate notes crescendo at the end with a warm oakey finish. Nate (4279) - Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA - JUL 31, 2007
Bottled. Chocolate coffee aroma, malty sweet with bit of lactic tang. Also a bit of broth and a sour tang, kind of funky. Light sulfur-sewer aroma. Dark black-brown clear with off-white or light tan lacing head. Medium bodied with medium carbonation. Starts with roasted grain and chocolate, coffee. Dry. Oddly there is a sulfur-wasabi-kelp taste to this somehow. Finish is mild chocolate bitter. After is mild hoppy bitterness.
