Brigadier (3760) - Chagrin Falls, Ohio, USA - JUN 18, 2013
Bottle at the Craft Beer Company Clerkenwell

Someone brought out this beer - an Irish imperial stout was too tempting to pass up. Unfortunately it did not work all that well. I’m glad to have sampled it yet I was very happy to move on to the next open bottle.

Aroma / Appearance - The oily black base rests idly in the glass. Not quite as dark and active as a bigger imperial stout it has an indifferent look. Sweet coffee grounds and melted Hershey’s kisses stand out the most. All told it does not grab the senses completely.

Flavor / Palate - Coffee, iced hot chocolate, and a sweet edge try to catch the attention. Unfortunately it is not enough. This is respectable but missing the depth that comes from the best of the style. I am at least willing to give Porterhouse some slack with their other releases as they were good.

Bottle at ratebeer tasting at CBC. Pours dark brown with no head. Nose is very chocolatey and sultana forward. Molasses and heavy raisins as it warns. Kind of like a muscat. Heavy molasses in taste with a fair bit of booze. Heat is there. Dry finish. Sultana on the finish. Sharp bitterness on the end. Not my kind of stout

Dobry ale nie rewelacyjny w porownaniu do innych imperialnych stoutow. Charakterystyczna goryczka i palony slod. Troche delikatny podobny do guinnessa tyle ze z o wiele wieksza piana. trwala i czapowata po mojemu. Intensywnie geste i czarne tak jak guinnessy, ale delikatne jak na ten wymagajacy gatunek

Bottle. An Irish imperial stout? Well I never! :-) Pours a deep brown body with a ruby-hued taint and a tiny off-white head. Aroma is vinous raisiny dried fruit tones, hints of alcohol, chocolate, honey and caramel. Nice. Taste is burnt sugars, vanilla, chocolate, caramel and hints of raisins, toffee and sweet licorice. Smooth oily mouthfeel. A bit atypical, but quite nice.

Jeden z nejlepsich stoutu.co jsem kdy pil. Tmava barva, husta pena, takove pivni kafe. Lahvac z pivonky.

330ml bottle at home. Pours a black choc colour with a thin tan head. Aroma is not overpowering, with molasses, caramel, coffee, chocolate. Medium chocolatey sweetness, light roasted malt bitterness, and just a little boozy kick at the end. Very smooth, in both flavour and carbonation, with a full-bodied feel to it. Very good.

Bottle at home, BOE, 02/02/13.
Light black in colouration with a thin tan head that soon dissipates to a bubbly film and edgeing.,
Nose carries roast malts, chocolate, dark toffee fudge, sugars, molasses.
Taste comprises roast malt, milk chocolate, mineral tones, toffee, metallic hints, brown sugar.
Medium bodied with bite, moderate carbonation, dry finish.
Decent stout.

Dark brown-black with fluffy beige head. Rich coffee and chocolate on the nose. Quite a lot of residual sweetness with some fruity hop notes and a roast barley bitter finish.

330ml bottle. Almost completely black but with a deep red tint. Tan head and lots of lacing. Medium carbonation. Smells roasty. Taste like roasted malt, coffee & liquorice. It’s very dry but tastes good and has a long lasting taste. The best porter I’ve had from Porterhouse.
