COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
cask and bottled, special
An American style barley wine. Big on flavor, big on flavor, big on hops and big on alcohol. An unseasonably strong beer, brewed with lots of dark malts to give a rich malt character, finishing with a distinctive hop aroma and a little sweetness.
Malts: pale, wheat, crystal, chocolate, black
Hops: Galena, nugget, east Kent goldings

FatPhil (17334) - Tallinn, ESTONIA - SEP 24, 2015
330ml bottle (Alus Celle, Riga)
Sweet caramelly aroma. Nice deep red. Slightly fizzy carbonation. Simple heavy malty body, a bit of burnt dustiness, quite a bit of dark caramel. Sweet palate, a bit thin though, carbonation quite high. Disappointing and dead.

Marduk (8628) - Reval, ESTONIA - SEP 18, 2015
330ml bottle (thanks FatPhil). Clear deep copper color. Small size, yellow head, stays. Sweet, caramel, mild hops, toffee in aroma. Raisins, toffee, caramel, mild bittering hops in taste. Alcohol is quite well hidden. Soft fizzy carbonation. I like it.

harrisoni (19559) - Ashford, Kent, ENGLAND - SEP 17, 2015
Bottle at the Porterhouse in Covent Garden. Clear chestnut colour lasting beige head. Sour hoppy malty alcoholic aroma. Pine hops. Very malty. A little thin. That’s a surprise. Big wild not exactly subtle or balanced but certainly entertainment in a glass.

3.2
Beerhammaren (1837) - Jyväskylä, FINLAND - AUG 17, 2015
.33l bottle @ Hanniku’s Cave. Pours cloudy dark reddish brown with low head. Aroma is alcohol, berries, malts, syrup, caramel, honey, bread, nuts and liquorice. Flavor is dark malts, salty liquorice, berries, wine notes, dried ftuits and alcohol, which kicks a bit tii much. Woody.

erickok (6036) - Leuven, BELGIUM - JUN 16, 2015
Heavy beer. Aroma is English and a bit dimmed. Dark dusty malts. But I love the heavy taste, warming alcohol, tea, roasted, dank. Nice stuff. (33cl bottle from Saveur Bière)

mR_fr0g (14036) - Hertfordshire, ENGLAND - JUN 8, 2015
Bottle shared at craft beer co clerko. Many thanks to Colin for this one. Nice bright reddy amber coloured pour with a halo of off white head. Aroma is nutty, dried fruit, varnish, little Belgian yeast. Flavour is composed of nutty treacle, dried fruit, sweet toffee apple. Palate is sweet, tangy, lowish carbonation. Little chewy on tongue.

The_Osprey (9723) - Richmond, Greater London, ENGLAND - JUN 8, 2015
Bottle share at CBC Clerkenwell, thanks to Colin. Dark brown, red hue, still, small foamy off-white head, light lacing. Aroma is sweet toffee, molasses, cardboard, suggestion of sherry. Body is medium, slightly foamy, low carbonation. Taste is sweet, tangy papery toffee-ish malts, more card, rose tincture, a little astringent with a soft bitterness.

Scopey (16277) - Croydon, Greater London, ENGLAND - JUN 7, 2015
Bottle thanks to T-Broise. It pours clear deep mahogany brown with a small white head. The nose is toasty brown sugar, wood, resin, toffee, banana bread, fruit cake and some umami. The taste is toasty, sweet, sticky, umami action, brown bread, booze, dried fruits, wood and resin with a warming finish. Full body, moderate carbonation and foamy mouth-feel. Quite a lot of booze and umami. Not sure on this one.

3.4
Theydon_Bois (21516) - Hazlemere, the lower Xhitlerns, Buckinghamshire, ENGLAND - JUN 6, 2015
Bottle split at the 9.49 CBC boost tasting, Clerko, 03/06/15 from Callans Dundalk. Chestnut brown/amber with a decent light beige covering. Nose is toffee, dark fruits, spice, brown sugar. Taste comprises sweet licks, toffee, dark fruit peel, dates, cake mix. Full bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with an earthy hop presence and light warming booze. Ok barley wine, pretty simple but decent enough.
