"Made to arecipe originally brewed by Deasy’s of West Cork in the early 1900’s. This was Michael Collins’ favourite tipple - a stout like your gradfather used to drink. A fine fullsome stout, full in every way, a pungent aroma of late kettle hops. A generous quantity of roast grain for flavour, bitter with flaked barley producing that rich body."
Ingredients: Pale Malt, Roast Barley, Black Malt, Flaked Barley; Galena, Nugget and East Kent Goldings hops.

7% ABV carbonated 750ml bottled version. Pours dark brown with a giant generous light brown/tan head. Smells of dough, nuts, pepper, hints of roasted malt, chocolate, spices, some hints of peatiness. Tastes of chocolate, hints of cherries, pepper, dark fruit and lots of complimentary roasty qualities. Some interesting earthy qualities emerge as the beer warms. Mouthfeel is full and lightly tangy with a spice/tarte finish.

UPDATED: OCT 22, 2015 Nice and full, hoppy dry stout with creamy body, sensual bitter chocolate and almost no cloying sweetness, even a hint of spicy tartness. Ptich black with a nice and full creamy head. - Still celebrating Bloomsday 2012, had this with a gorgonzola toast. - Perfect match made in Irish beer heaven - eager to try more of the Porterhouse’s brews now. Anyone know a good German import for their other beers? // Resampled 33cl as 4xStout at 5,6% instead of 5% - bb12/2016: quite robust and charred malt bitter, really. But enjoyably so. Red berry components in the hops.

UPDATED: MAY 1, 2016 The beer has a lovely stout appearance. The color of the beer is a beautiful pitch black, with a nice ruby red glow. The beer pours a delicious soft creamy white head of foam. The foam remains on top of the beer for quite a long time. The creamy layer of foam that remains looks delicious and seals all the aromas in. The beer smells like a proper stout. There are slightly salty aromas of roasted barley, coffee and chocolate. The taste confirms this. There is a nice citrusy hop aroma in the finish. The beer has something special, maybe a smoky sensation. It’s a delicious robust stout, with a youth of freshness in the finish. One of the better stouts in the world, I my opinion. It’s nice, very nice.

Super dobry i wytrawny stout w starym stylu. Mimo wytrawnosci i szerokiej gamy chmielowej goryczy czuc palony slod ciemne owoce lesne. Likierowe piwo z chmielona glebia. Wyglad takze super, bezowa piana ladna srednio trwala i czarne ciemna jak bezgwiezdzista noc barwa. super do twardego sera dlugo dojrzewajacego

thru Michael Jackson Rare Beer Club. Creamy chocolate and vanilla with coffee, cafe mocha all on the nose. Pours black with a thick tan head that lasts. Heavy coffee flavor, with chocolate notes, strong roasted barley flavor, vanilla, so so so creamy even without nitro. So good!!! Best stout i’ve had out of the emerald isle!

On tap at The Porterhouse, Dublin 5/7/09. Aroma: Subtle, earthy hops. Appearance: Opaque black with tan, creamy head. Flavor: Dry and roasty up front with a lingering bitterness of Kent Goldings. Palate: Heavy flavor, but dry. Overall Impression: The best Irish stout I’ve had, bar none. Great late hop flavor. I would suggest trying this alongside their ’Plain Porter’. The rather bland Plain will make you appreciate what a fine beer this is.

Poured from an 11.2 OZ bottle into a pint glass. The appearance is a black beer with a small tan head. The aroma is packed with chocolate malt and roasted nuts. The taste is a very nice smoky malt flavor.
