COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Portland Pale Ale - an Oast Ale. What’s an Oast Ale? It’s a Portland Brewing exclusive that’s spiced with distilled oil from the rare hop Brewer’s Gold. We harvest the prized hop in the Willamette Valley, ship it to England for distilling, and ship it back in the form of hop oil which we then add to our beer as a finishing touch. The results of our transatlantic efforts? A crisp, refreshing summer ale that’s bursting with floral-hops aroma with none of the usual hops bitterness. Portland Pale Ale is available April through August.

A pale ale that takes its name from the brewery's first beer, Portland Pale employs oil distilled from Brewer's Gold hops to create an intensely-layered hoppy ale. The oil gives flavor, not bitterness.

Had this beer on 6/14/1999. Color is a bright crystal clear gold with good carbonation and a thin head. Aroma is a sweet malt scent that reminds me of apple juice, there is no hop aroma. Taste is lightly sweet and boring. Starting with a light body it goes down a bit crisp with a very mild malt flavor. The finish is a very light malt flavor with a very mild bitterness. As a Pale its just not good.

12oz bottle. Poured a medium golden color with an averaged sized white head. Aromas of citrus, wet grass, and some cookie dough. Tastes of citrus and light carame. Tastes and body on the thin and watery side.

Cigarette ash malty, grassy, watery. Resin/pine spores dust. A bland style I do not like.

T2Tool (352) - Murfreesboro, Tennessee, USA - AUG 12, 2006
Poured from a bottle picked up at a local bar. Don’t know if the beer had been sitting for a while and was skunk, but the taste was pretty bad. Maybe will give it a try again one day, but not anytime soon.

Pours a nice orangish color. Aroma is grassy hops. Flavor of a classic pale, big grassy hop flavor.

Pailhead (6543) - Rochester Hills, Michigan, USA - OCT 21, 2005
Bottle: Decent malt aroma of caramel and cookie and the slightest hint of floral hops. Pours a transparent golden-orange with a small white head. Flavor is mostly all malt. Caramel and cookie up front. Light floral hoppiness. A decent pale ale.

Pour is golden with a thin fast fading off white head...smell is resin, corn, grass...taste is grain and sweet corn...this is not good...
