Shared by ericandersnavy. Pours a clear dark brown with some ruby along the edges. Just bubbles for head. Some strong roast malt with something like dark fruit for aroma. Near full bodied with mild carbonation. Flavor is quite malty, but it is not really sticky. Lots of hop to help balance the sweetness - but on average it’s a sweet sipper. A really pleasant drink, and the heat is just barely noticeable. Didn’t notice it til I thought about it! Really good drink. Mouthsmacking. Tmoney99 (14479) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - OCT 4, 2010
Bottle shared by alexsdad06. Poured clear reddish brown color with an average frothy off-white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate to heavy dark fruit, malt and small alcohol aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Moderate to heavy complex sweet flavor with a medium to heavy sweet finish of moderate to long duration. This is another from this house standout beer.

Thanks Josh for sharing this 22oz bottle. Poured a deeper amberish / brown color with a smaller sized off white head. Aromas of nuttiness, chocolate, caramel, and dark fruits. Tastes of dark fruits, caramel, chocolate, nuts, and toffee. alexsdad06 (10394) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - OCT 15, 2011
22 oz. bottle from tertons (from notes). Pours a deep copper color with a medium sized off white head. The nose has sweet caramel malts, raisin, ripe fruits, with a hint of grape juice. The flavor has sweet caramel malts, hint of chocolate, raisin, ripe fruits and a touch of bitterness to the finish. I was told to wait for a bit because this was hot young, but when we consumed the beer the alcohol was well hidden.

Growler thanks to blutt59. Pours with a minimal tan head over a brown body. Aroma of alcohol, brown sugar and a ton of dark fruits. Taste is dark fruits, soggy grain and burnt flan. Syrupy mouthfeel and light carbonation. BuckeyeBoy (7663) - Boise, Idaho, USA - APR 11, 2011
Bottle thanks to JohnGalt1 for sharing this. Pours out mahogany/brown topped with a nice head. Aroma is of caramel, rich roast malts, pit fruit, and a little pine hop. Taste is as the aroma but with some pit fruit sweetness.

Growler! Poured a rich shade of dark brown with a moderate cap of beige head. The aroma picked up warm, aged caramel, molasses, and a touch of dark fruit with alcohol undertones and leafy hoppage.. very good stuff! The flavor found well-caramelized biscuit and molasses malts with lesser caramel and fruit.. dry, earthy spices and brown sugar around.. alcohol warmed it up, but nowhere near the supposed 11.5%! Heavier-bodied and very malty overall on the palate.. balance was spot-on, and this is one that’ll sneak up on you. AirForceHops (7233) - Epping, New Hampshire, USA - NOV 10, 2011
Draft @ the brew pub. They have on an aged 2009 vintage. I found quite the treat today. Deep red, nearly brown in color, very thin head. Sweet, rich nose. Taste is dark dried fruit, toffee, caramel with a mild bitterness. Body was full, yet very easy to drink. The high ABV is very light in this Gem. This isn’t a style a drink a lot of but, Wow it aged nicely! egajdzis (6580) - Pennsburg, Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 28, 2010
Red brown color with a small, light tan head that left light lacing on the glass. Aroma of caramel malts, dark fruits, nuts, wood, and alcohol. Taste of caramel malts, nuts, dried fruits, toffee, tobacco, pine and light alcohol.
