On tap at the source. Pours a ruddy reddish brown with a thin off white head. Doesn’t have that rich red/orange glow that some barlywines have, but I’ll give it a 4 for appearance anyway. Smells like a barlywine should. Caramel, toffee, dark fruits with a good dose of booze. Nice sweet taste, caramel, toffee, brown sugar with a bit of earthy hops to bitter things up a bit. Full bodied with a boozy finish. Nice. Stine (1796) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - AUG 19, 2013
Wide ranging aroma suggests a fulsome, earthy english-style take. Melon, toffee, overripe red fruits, and salty caramel are the strongest notes.

Too much fusely alcohol. The rich, quality malt flavors of fruits, tobacco, earth and sweets stay afloat in the warmish pool.
Full but somewhat slick palate further suggests that this thing could gather a slow head of steam and be really excellent if left to itself for a while.
Nice beer! Pours brown with little head and no lacing. Nose is toffee and plums. Notes os toffee maybe some molasses, dark fruit like figs, and maybe a trace of leather. Taste is heavy sweet and light bitter. Alcohol is well hidden. Full body with lively carbonation. Maybe poured a bit too cold at brewpub. thornecb (6022) - Marblehead, Massachusetts, USA - JUL 25, 2013
Pours ruby-tinged mahogany into a snifter. Tan head with little retention recedes to mottle surface. Sweet summer fruit aromas. Thick with citrus, strawberry and caramel upfront turning warming in the lasting bitter pith finish. suprchunk (2994) - Crestview, Florida, USA - MAR 7, 2012
Garnet colored pour with a brownish tint. Small khaki head that last for a bit. A little lacing. Malty, bread, cereal aroma. A slight fruitiness. Very fruity front with some big malt notes. A bit of an alcohol burn. Slight bitterness. Very quaffable and not as big of an alcohol presence as one would imagine. Nice.

22oz bomber shared by Madvike. Slightly hazy, orange-tan. Really clean, well executed Barleywine. Piny orange tones. Big hop action, but really smooth and drinkable for the ABV. A great Barleywine through and through. AirForceHops (7702) - Epping, New Hampshire, USA - NOV 10, 2011
Draft @ the brew pub. They have on an aged 2009 vintage. I found quite the treat today. Deep red, nearly brown in color, very thin head. Sweet, rich nose. Taste is dark dried fruit, toffee, caramel with a mild bitterness. Body was full, yet very easy to drink. The high ABV is very light in this Gem. This isn’t a style a drink a lot of but, Wow it aged nicely! alexsdad06 (10672) - West Chester, Ohio, USA - OCT 15, 2011
22 oz. bottle from tertons (from notes). Pours a deep copper color with a medium sized off white head. The nose has sweet caramel malts, raisin, ripe fruits, with a hint of grape juice. The flavor has sweet caramel malts, hint of chocolate, raisin, ripe fruits and a touch of bitterness to the finish. I was told to wait for a bit because this was hot young, but when we consumed the beer the alcohol was well hidden. chibuck (3513) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - JUL 4, 2011
Thanks to Mike for this... Looks really good, nice mahogany, light tan head... Smells a little stale, vomit, caramel... tastes like burning, caramel but super hot, weird chalky finish... Not very good dnstone (3497) - Kansas City, Missouri, USA - JUN 18, 2011
Cloudy ambery color with slight off-white head. Sweet, malty aroma. Fairly sweet...a great, well-balanced barleywine.
