This German style Pilsner is a lager showcasing the crisp & refreshing noble hop, Czech Saaz, delicately balanced with the pleasant aftertaste of domestic two row malt. Fall in love with our flagship brew!

Gold color with a solid, thick white head with tiny bubbles in the head and going up the sides of my glass. A light yeast and grassy aroma, more like green straw. A mild sweetness with mild grassy hops. Nothing off about any of it this is a fine pilsner

Draft sample at the source. The beer is a clear yellow with a white head of foam. Crisp, doughy, with a grassy finish. Lighter body and medium carbonation.

Nice find, bottle at kroger! $1.25 Hazy pale like a wit bier. Smell is of fresh cut hay. Very smooth refreshing and bubbly, much better than expected considering all those astringent beers out there that call themselves pilsner. Yes, so much carbonation, lovely, effervescence. One of the better beers in feel on my palate in a long time, so cutting. Taste is almost tart but never quite gets there, right on the threshold of tart and wheatie. This the kind of beer I wouldn’t mind in a 24 can case. Yummy, civilized overall beer drinking experience, nice job Portsmouth. Lovely refreshing stuff fer sure! Does not possess any of that rude sharp astringent bitterness so common with contemporary pilsners. I think this just may be my highest rated pilsner above Erie Brewing Hard Cock Pilsner, Bavik Premium Pils, Carlsberg Pilsner, Warsteiner Premium Verum, New England Elm City Pilsner or even Brixton Michael Pilsener, pretty good stuff! Big thanks to kroger and portsmouth for this random encounter. No lie! This Pilsner ROCKS! I’m liking this bullshit! Not like most american or domestic wannah beez!

BeerdedDave (2005) - Beckley, USA - OCT 24, 2016
clear gold color; earthy, astringent, grassy, vegetal aroma; flavor is light malt and grassy hops with more strange vegetable notes; not a very good pilsner in my opinion

I wasn’t looking to purchase this beer but it came with a free howler. Or I should say my howler came with this free beer. Pilsners aren’t really my thing but I certainly won’t turn them down. Nothing special with this one. Typical American-style lgiht beer.

Bottle thanks to my cousins. Pours yellow white head. Nose/taste of old rye bread, stale peppercorn, grass and old malt - Lighter medium body.

Pour from a 12oz bottle. Slightly cloudy light amber brew. Not much aroma. Taste is light malts, slightly vegetal, not much hops.

12 ounce bottle from The Root Cellar. Medium gold hue, medium white head, medium bittersweet aroma with the trademark Portsmouth Brewing rotten vegetable smell in the backround, slightly astringent medium bittersweet flavor with some adjuncts. I’ve now given three of this place’s brews less than ringing endorsements but I have to admit, the brewery is still probably better than Portsmouth, Ohio deserves.

Tasted on tap at brewery. Pale yellow with nice white head and some good lacing. Taste is dry with mild sweetness and a medium to low malt and hippiness taste. Above average pilsner. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

3/05/2011: Portsmouth Pilsner... Aroma: Light and grassy with a hint of lemon. Appearance: Pale straw color with a chill haze; densely frothy off-white head that leaves scant lacing. Flavor: A bit funky at first, then biscuit, light grassy hops and some bitterness. Palate: Medium-light body; crisp, clean, and smooth. Overall: Decent, refreshing Pils.

Draught sample at Portsmouth Brewing in Portsmouth, Ohio. Rating #16 for this beer.

This is a very crafted beer, but the malt/hops ratio is a bit high for style due to insufficient hopping. It’s also rather light in color, being a very pale gold. It does have a head with nice size, density and durability, and very fine lacing. Very good to excellent as a light pilsner.
