(Draft @ brewpub) Bubblicious!....Served in a shaker (they usually serve it with a lemon wedge but I declined). Cloudy light amber/gold body with a small off-white head. Aroma of yeast, wheat malt, citrus, lilies and other light florals. Mouthfeel light, wheaty smooth. Lightly sticky (a bit of a Portsmouth trademark). Some light, weepy, fleeting rings of lacing. Orange and banana juices flow onto the sweet cereals as doughy yeast is dropped onto the muddled result. All the right flavors are there, but for some reason I don’t find this Hefeweizen to be cohesive at all.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-There is barely a ring of foam to top the cloudy beige.
-The chosen yeast is very expressive; lots of banana esters and spicy, clovey phenols. Weihenstephaner’s perhaps?
-The relatively low carbonation does not help the mouthfeel at all.
-My glass was overly fruity and sweet to be all that drinkable. A rare dislike for me at this brewpub.

22 oz bottle, from brewpub. Pours a cloudy orangish gold body under a very fleeting fizzy white head that vanished almost completely. The nose is a slightly sour smelling wheat with a hefty dose of doughy yeast. A little caramel sweetness, and a hint of bubblegum. The flavor is quite sweet with minimal yeast influence. Too much risidual sweetness. Seems like a little yeast autolysis may have occured. Mouthfeel is way too heavy and thick for a Hefe, lots of heavy doughy stickiness. This is pretty horrorshow for a Hefe. This could pass for a bad Wheat Wine it’s so thick and heavy.

Draught pint at Portsmouth 5/27/06. Pours a nice clear golden color with a slight haze and a foamy bright white head. Nose is lightly peppery and lemony. Some banana notes and fresh citrus. Pours a caramalized sugar color wth blonde highlights throughout leaving a small white head. The aroma is fig, banana fruit, small amounts of citrus, cloves with a similar smell to "Mr. Clean" in a good way. The taste is buttery and malty starts with a fruit background followed by a wheat, grainey taste then takes you to very light honey hop mild carbonated finish. Very nice Hefe, I find it nice and true to the style.
