A robust, Irish-style stout with 75 pounds of rolled and steel-cut oats included in the mash. The oats add a creamy texture and velvety smoothness that help round out the roasted barley bite. Served nitrogen-conditioned for a thick, frothy head.

Had on tap, and served from a bartender who probably went as a "nerd" in high school. Reddish dark-brown pour which sustained huge frothy mocha head. Smells and tastes of refined sugar, Coca-Cola, licorice, and ash. Oats, roast and vanillin by swallow. Alright. Too sweet for the style, IMHO.

Cask at GBBF 2012, London. Pours rich brown with a fine, bubbly head. Rich chocolate aroma with moderate roast, some char. Medium sweet flavor with dark chocolate, dark toast, modest earthy bitterness. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Faint dryness to finish with loads of rubust yet restrained chocolate and roasted malts. Superb.

Bottle:   Pours black, thin frothy sandy head, spotty lacing.   Sweet malty nose, slightly toasty, a little bit of milk chocolate.   Sweet oatish and dark chocolate on the tongue.   Decent malt base, toasty, well balanced with some of the roast and the sweetness.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate.   Clean finish, toasted malts, chocolate, oatish, with a slight coffee tinge.   Pretty respectable, and a solid example.   Thanks for the bottle Jeff!

Cask @ GBBF 12. The pours deep brown with a small off-white head. The nose is light raisin, oatmeal cookie, some chocolate. The taste is oatmeal raisin cookie, more chocolate, sweet. Light body, slightly watery. Overall, a bit too sweet and watery. OK.

Cask at GBBF 2012, at least I hope its this version, as its 8%... Black pour with coarse tan head. Green hops and treacle nose, initially sweet, then drying with assertive green hops, then softening again on the palate with apple and black treacle. Burnt bitter finish. Very nice.

On tap at the brewery. Pours black with a thick beige head. Aroma of lightly roasted malts, a little cereal and oats, and light hops. Flavor about the same. Silky texture. A pretty good beer.

Bottle poured into snifter. This one was a disappointment. The aroma was almost like sour milk and it wasnt exactly pleasant to drink either. Seemed like it was way past its prime and didnt stand the test of time because I think it was an older bottle.

Cask at GBBF 2010. A brown beer with a beige head. The aroma has notes of malt and yeast. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, fruits, and caramel.

Pours a solid black with just the faintest of brown highlights on the edges. A vigorous pour produced a minimal khaki head that dissipated quickly. Smells of toasted malts, roasted coffee, hints of milk chocolate and steeping grains as well. Tastes of creamy chocolate up front, roasted coffee and toasted malts mid way through with a long lingering roasted bitterness in a fairly dry finish. Creamy smooth mouthfeel, light carbonation and a slightly thin body. Very tasty brew. I could certainly see myself throwing a few of these back. That said I could have used a touch more body and maybe a hair more carbonation but I didnt take much off for that because it tasted so damn good.
