Cask conditioned handpump Wig & Pen Northampton 01/11/12. A black beer with a lovely looking frothy coffee beige head. There are lots of roasty coffee notes in this but also a sour milky note throughout. Has a long finish and obvious alcohol but the flavours are not desirable. Problematic.

GBBF Day 3. Cask. Almost clear dark brown beer, tidy pale tan head. Palate is smooth, semi dry and has reasonable fine carbonation. Smooth dark malts, fair bit of aniseed and licorice. Estery sweetness. More rich licorice. Ripe dried fruits. Semi dry finish. Notably licorice stout.

Cask at GBBF ’16, day one, 09/08/16. Light black topped with a decent tan head. Nose is fruit cake, liqourice, spice, treacle toffee, hint of varnish. Taste comprises liquid fruit cake, light chocolate, aniseed, liquroice, black pepper. Medium + body, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a boozy tickle. Not bad for a cask impy.

Cask, Swan & Rushes, Leicester. Black with a beige foam. Aromas are liquorice and dark chocolate with roast coffee. Blackberry with some vinous plummy notes. Hints of coal with marzipan alcohol and smoke. Flavours are sweet plummy and tangy berry fruits with dark chocolate bitterness. Coffee with some ash and nutty, spicy alcohol. Earthy and dry on the finish. Perhaps a little thin bodied but overall pretty good.
