Umber color with a moderate sized taupe colored head. Aromas of dark caramel, dates and other darker fruits. Yeast and alcohol come out a bit as it sets. Sweet malty start. Pours very attractively with a deep reddish brown color and a very large tight tan-colored head.
The aroma is really very sweet, but also very pleasant. I get more fruitiness than anything, most specifically cherry and pear. As it sits it get’s a bit of creme brule, caramel, chocolate, and overripe banana.
The flavor is more classic "to style" than I generally expect for a US brewed version of a Dubbel. It is sweet and there is an alcohol twang to it... but there is a lot of balance happening here nuttiness, light bitterness, light leafy hoppiness, a touch of roast, some chocolate, some lightly burnt sugar... all the while nothing is overwhelming or out of place. As it warms tart cherries and pears are detected, all the while the bit of spiciness tends to calm the sweet character of the beer.
I’m terribly impressed here really, I have next to no expectation for any Dubbel, particularly one made outside of Belgium to be very good... and while I like Potosi, I don’t ever expect good Belgian styles form them... not sure why to be honest, and this certainly changes that for me.
12 oz. bottle. It pours a dark orange color with a shrinking orange head. The aroma is pleasant with rich dark fruit. Plums, raisins, figs along with some banana and sweet bubblegum from the yeast and some toast and cocoa. The flavor is sweet and full bodied with more raisins and plum with heavy bubblegum. The finish is a bit too sweet with more bubblegum and flabby maltiness. Mild spice and fruit. Decent beer, but not close to the classics of the style.

Bottle. Pours a dark ruby red, very light lacing. Spice cake and gingerbread aroma. Heavy sweetness right away, wow. More spice, a bit of dried cherry, and sweet chocolate notes. Bottle:   Deep amber, small to moderate sudsy off-white head, little lacing.   Soft biscuit and caramel on the nose.   A little musty.   Biscuity with a touch of cough syrup right up front.   Has that immediate intense syrupy sweetness, but it goes away quickly.   Not as barnish or musty on the tongue.   Pretty simple, bready, some caramel, a bit nutty, biscuit, with a quick cough syrup flavor, all while being a touch thin.   Not as rich or heavy as I would have thought for a Dubbel.   Lacks dark pitted fruit.   Tiz okay, but seems a bit light.   Thanks Bob! drdisque (886) - Illinois, USA - NOV 21, 2013
From a 12 oz bottle poured in a tulip. Pours flat cloudy dark ruby with no head and no lacing. Almost no aroma. Flavor is clean and fruity and slightly sweet. Notes of vanilla and caramel. Abrupt watery finish. Inoffensive but unexceptional - it’s just a little too clean and polished, could stand to be more tart, juicy, or even bitter. Copper with a thin tan head. Aroma of toasted malt, toffee, fruit and yeast. Taste of bubblegum, dark fruits, Belgian yeast and caramel. Not bad.
