11.2 oz bottle into a footed pilsner glass. A: Pours a dark chestnut color. The head is a creamy-looking one finger offwhite shade. It fades away at a decent rate, but leaves a miniscule ring of lacing on the glass. S: There’s a pleasant nuttiness at first, with even more pleasant grassy hops hidden beneath that. Hints of coffee abound; the aroma has a real hazelnut vibe I enjoy. The aroma could be a bit bolder, otherwise I really like it. T: At first, the hazelnut qualities from the aroma trickle down to the flavors. After that, it transitions to more raisin-y tone near the back end, before a touch of hops cleanse the finish some. It’s too sweet, I think - some more grassy hops on the back end could have really made this one special. M: This is a bit more lumbering than one would expect from a 4.5% dark lager; this has both a positive and negative effect. On the plus side, it helps give it a richer feel, but at the same token, it doesn’t have the drinkability it should feature. Carbonation is soft, which is a good match for the treacly texture. O: Being a Czech dark lager, I expected more Saaz hops. It’s certainly well made, but like I said, it’s just too sweet at the end of the day. Still pretty good.

Pours deep brown with a big frothy beige head. Aroma of sweet malts, light caramel. Taste is sweet, malty and slightly spicy. Mostly sweet malts.

Aroma: Cereals and herbs. Appearance: Dark brown color with clear sparkling liquid and minimal white head. Taste: Light sweetness with medium bitter notes. Palate: Light body with thin texture and average carbonation. Short bitter/sweet finish. Overall: Not a good dunkel. Very soft and no memory.

jaghana (6019) - Strasbourg (Alsace), FRANCE - APR 3, 2017
Bottle 50cl, a dark amber beer with low head. Nose is on caramel and dark caramel. Taste is quite sweet with low bitterness. Aroma is on caramel, barley sugar, some burnt caramel notes, some molasses touch, bit industrial like.

Bottle from Colonial Spirits. Dark brown in color without much of a head. Molasses and caramel aroma and flavor mostly. Hints of raisin and prune but this feels mostly artificial.

Aroma is sweet, caramel, metallic, dark fruit, not very roasty, just a lot of fig and caramel. Appearance is brown amber, light tan head, slightly hazy. Taste is sweet, caramel, figs, plums, cloying sugar, not good. Mouthfeel is light to medium body, light carbonation, cloying sweet fruit aftertaste. Overall, this isn’t quite like other dunkels...I really dislike this.

seymour (2001) - Maplewood, Missouri, USA - FEB 5, 2017
Sampled at the 2016 Czech Heritage Fest in a footed pilsener glass, an opaque dark brown colour with weak tan foam and a little lace. Malty but too much so, sticky sweet, heavy syrupy body, indiscernible hops, low carbonation. More like flat root beer or kvass than anything. Authentic, I guess, but sure not what I expected, and not very enjoyable.

BBE 09.11.17. Vaaleanruskea mutaliejuinen väri, olematon vaahto. Tuoksuu keinotekoisesti makeutetulta pinkiltä sour-karkilta. Suutuntuma ylimakean pirteä, radlerolut, karmea, karmea, aivan hirvittävää paskaa. All natural ingredients my ass.
