3.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
11.2 oz bottle into a footed pilsner glass.
A: Pours a dark chestnut color. The head is a creamy-looking one finger offwhite shade. It fades away at a decent rate, but leaves a miniscule ring of lacing on the glass.
S: There’s a pleasant nuttiness at first, with even more pleasant grassy hops hidden beneath that. Hints of coffee abound; the aroma has a real hazelnut vibe I enjoy. The aroma could be a bit bolder, otherwise I really like it.
T: At first, the hazelnut qualities from the aroma trickle down to the flavors. After that, it transitions to more raisin-y tone near the back end, before a touch of hops cleanse the finish some. It’s too sweet, I think - some more grassy hops on the back end could have really made this one special.
M: This is a bit more lumbering than one would expect from a 4.5% dark lager; this has both a positive and negative effect. On the plus side, it helps give it a richer feel, but at the same token, it doesn’t have the drinkability it should feature. Carbonation is soft, which is a good match for the treacly texture.
O: Being a Czech dark lager, I expected more Saaz hops. It’s certainly well made, but like I said, it’s just too sweet at the end of the day. Still pretty good.
Bottle. 4.8%. Best before 31.08.18. Pours a clear, dark ruby/chestnut brown, with a creamy, light tan head. Great lacing. Malty aroma with a yogurt note. Caramel as it warms, and the yogurt note diminishes a bit. Flavour is malty and somewhat smoked, with a light sugary note. Light yogurt note here as well, though this diminishes as it warms as well. Bitter finish. Caramel malt, lingering smoked, metallic and light ashy notes. Overall pretty decent, and the smoked note is a pleasant surprise. But would have been a bit better without the yogurt notes. 18.11.17. flemmingwillum (1233) - Nysted, DENMARK - NOV 9, 2017

2015 BJCP Category: 3D Czech Dark Lager
AROMA: Plenty of dark malt but no roasty/burnt notes. Some confectionery notes and a touch of cola or nuts. Low spicy Noble hops in the background. Oxidation and light-strike are noticeable, but not distracting. 8/12
APPEARANCE: Clear dark brown hue (17-40 SRM). Moderate tan froth never completely dissipates and leaves trace lacing. 3/3
FLAVOR: Malty sweetness throughout with prominent Maillard products. Notes of milk chocolate, caramel, cola, and bread are present. No roasted or burnt flavors. Low spicy hop flavor and gentle dry bitterness to offer some balance and prevent a cloying palette. Background note of minerals and oxidation are easily overlooked. Slightly sweet aftertaste. 16/20
MOUTHFEEL: Medium-light body and carbonation. Very smooth. Not refreshing, but easily quaffable. Highly efficient at only 4.5% ABV. 4/5
OVERALL IMPRESSION: Certainly an admirable example of the style. Though old, this bottle was enjoyable. Probably World Class when fresh. 8/10
TOTAL SCORE: 39/50
Aroma: Fruity sweet with dark ripe berries.
Flavour: Fruity sweet with dark berries and malty sweetness.
Colour: dark reddish brown with an offwhite head.

[Butelka 13.09.2017] Barwa ciemnobrunatna, klarowne. Piana średnia, szybko redukująca się. Aromat i smak mocno karmelowy (na pewno to po części zasługa dodania substancji słodzących). Pijalne, orzeźwiające. AleRider78 (1452) - Winchester, Ontario, CANADA - JUL 30, 2017
Pours a very thin layer of head that doesn’t stay long at all. Has a dark amber appearance with light reddish hues. Fairly weak lacing. Aromas of roasted malts, light toffee and caramel notes. Flavours of coffee and mild chocolate. Makes me think of a light watery version of a stout, which is sort of what this is, a dark lager. Has all the characteristics of a stout but just doesn’t have the thickness or the body. Sort of a watery mouthfeel but still very flavourful. Mild carbonation. medium retention. Pretty good and quite surprising. YantarCoast (1512) - Moscow, RUSSIA - JUL 19, 2017

Clear dark mahogany pour with a large nitro-like mocha head and good retention. Decent lacing. Charred sweet malt flavor and little else - and I’m okay with that. Really clean and simple. zvsn (2302) - ISRAEL - JUL 13, 2017
Bottle. Dark amber brown with a beige head. Aroma of caramel, nuts, toasted bread, a bit soapy and skunky. Flavor is sweet, with caramel, bread, toasted, light diacetyl notes. Medium-bodied, sugary, soft carbonation.
