‘Merica is a single malt, single hop farmhouse ale. It’s brewed with floor malted pilsner and 3lbs per bbl Nelson Sauvin hops. The beer is conditioned with 2 brett strains and wine yeast. The Nelson hops provide white wine flavors while Brettanomyces add a juicy quality to the beer.

NYE bottle share at Proof. Pours an opaque creamy yellow. Tons of white frothy head. Head holds really well and by the time I finished the sample, the head was still holding. Aroma is straight floral hops and grass. Such a great, but unique smell. Taste is floral hops with a good amount of banana behind it. Nice high carbonation and medium-thick body.

Bottle from K&L in Redwood City, CA. Aroma is funk, mild cat pee, spicy yeast, Bretts, dried pineapple, dried apricot. Taste is surprisingly juicy, dried fruit (if that’s possible), yeasty, dry peels, maybe old dry wood. Prairie somehow makes something so dry, funky and old attic feel fresh, juicy and light.

Pours clear, wan straw yellow with a fairly thick and somewhat persistent porcelain head. Aroma presents yeasty, fresh malt and white wine tones. Flavor downplays the malt and yeast, but adds some woody hops. Mouthfeel has decent fizz and body, and finish delivers a note of tart white wine. All ’Merica(n), all the time.

I’ve been wanting to try this one for over a year. I love me a good dry-hopped Brett beer, and this is one of the greats of the genre. So, imagine my happiness when I popped the cap, poured it into a glass, and smelled all of that barnyard funk goodness. Then, imagine how confused I got when I actually tasted it. The flavor starts off good, with funk, leather, and earth, but it finishes with a big note of ... fish. Weird. I’ve heard Nelson Sauvin described as giving a "cat pee" taste before -- is that what I’m getting? Whatever it is, it’s pretty unpleasant, and it torpedoes an otherwise really good funky beer.

Pours a hazy straw yellow with a foamy white head. Aroma is funk, spicy and peppery yeast, citrus, and this is the first time I can clearly see what is meant by "barnyard" - makes me think of a horse, but in a good way. Flavor is softer on all counts, with some funk and barnyard standing out. Has lively carbonation and a medium body. Nice.

Brett and a huge load of Nelson Sauvin hops means that ’Merica is one dank yeasty, funky beer. This yellow-gold brew smells like... Well, if the rain forest exhibit at your closest zoo had sweaty, nasty sex with the local feedlot, this is the type of smell you would get as a result. It’s attractive only in the upside-down world of disgusting aesthetics. The flavor works that way, too. It’s a weird mix of tropical, barnyard, and earth. Bone dry citrusy finish. It’s a remarkable brew that absolutely shouldn’t drank immediately after enjoying a bomber of Anchorage Love Buzz by yourself (unless you want farts that could usher in an apocalypse).

on tap @ Vino Bellissimo - Lima OH --- Clear bright light golden amber, off-white head that sinks to a thick cover, full lace curtain. Taste is mild malt, mild carbonation, and light sour/bitter in a somewhat short finish. A lot of abv in small brew. Not so effective.

Pours a very cloudy straw golden with a large, well-retaining, rich, white head. Well-blended nose. Musty and fruity. Tangerine and basement air flavors. Soft, cottony mouthfeel.

Bottle from Old Town (2016 bottle with new label). Classic prairie nose with some grain and dry brett on the nose, some dried pineapple, lemon zest and apricot as it warms. Lots of brett on the palate, with more pineapple, wheat and lime. Some pepper on the dry finish. Very quaffable and refreshing.

Bottle into a tulip. Pours a hazy light yellow, with a big white head that lasts. Nose is bubble gum, banana, and cloves. Taste is dry, slightly tart, with a long, long finish. Variation on the classic saison taste. The wine yeast and Brett give it a very well-balanced, juicy taste. Touch of funk on the finish tops it off. Outstanding.
