Prairie Gold is a dry, highly effervescent saison fermented with a mix of ale yeast, wine yeast, lactobacillus and 2 strains of brettanomyces. This beer highlights the various yeasts and bacteria used to make it. Lemon, pear, white wine grapes, and a touch of funk dominate the flavor and aroma in this champagne like beer.

Pale gold pour with a tall, fluffy white head that fades somewhat quickly to around half a finger and is sustained there by some high effervescence. Aroma is bright tart and funky yeast notes, lemon, under ripe berries, a touch of cereal just a hint of smokiness. Flavor is sour, funky and tart bery up front, then some musty funk, toast, hay and some green woodiness. Light body, dry and crisp throughout, highly carbonated. Really god stuff.

Bottle from Mr. Bs. 1/2 of the beer exploded out the top after opening. Hazy orange gold color with a white head. Grass lemon sour aroma. Carbonated medium body. Green grapes lemon flavor with a sour funk but not overwhelming. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Large bottle (500 ml? pint? didnt mark it in my notes) purchased at Aficionados in Lewis Center, OH. Prairie Prairie Gold was a very hazy medium golden brew with a firm head of off white bubbles. Nose was lemon sour with traces of earthy funk. Taste was mildly tart. Quite a restrained sour with some hints of peach and citrus. Body was medium and a bit fizzy. A very nice sour, perhaps I should try more. I am afraid the first few have turned me completely off to the style, but more of this and Id come right back.

Bottle from Brewfest. Total gusher despite sitting still in fridge for two days. Gushed the head right off. Peachy pale orange no head or lace. White wine pear aroma. Mild tropical fruit and peach sweetness with mild tart citrusy white wine tartness. Medium light body almost flat since the "effervescence" gushed right out the top of the bottle and fizzed off the beer. Pretty much a waste of $12.

2015-10-09. Hazy yellow body with a small off-white head. 3+ Aroma is mild, lightly fruity, touch of grapes. Flavour is lightly sour, refreshing, moderate fruit. Average bodied palate, good carbonation. The guy on the label that is clearly trying to have sex with that goose is a bit disturbing. Decent but a bit simpler than I had hoped for. Bottle from Aurora Brew Works, Buffalo.

Bottle shared with Paul, Linh and Ken. Pours a hazy golden amber body with large white head. Aroma is funky wheat and tart fruit. Mouthfeel is tart, soft and sessionable with notes of soft fruit, tart candy, funk, barn, earthy bretty yeast and oak. Nice.

50 cl bottle @ home. Pours hazy yellow with some sediment and a white head that leaves a little lacing. Aroma and flavour are lemons, flowers, and yeast - with a tart finish.

Rich, opaque gold color. Minimal white ring. Smells mildly sour and like Belgian church yeast. Flavor is sweet old church smell and harshly dry.

Cloudy golden and copper coloured body with a soda-like head that fades just as fast as you can pour it. Aroma of yeast, grass, pale grass, wheat, sour grapes and way more yeast - strong. Medium-bodied; Assertive sour flavour with brett very noticeable, coupled with some lemons, grass, herbs, wheat and a dry finish, like a saison showing some white pepper too. Aftertaste shows the brett flavours coupled with a dry yeast note that feels like a belgian pale ale with a little extra sweetness at the end. Overall, a good beer, but way overrated just from the print on the label. A solid brett-based saison with a touch of sour notes and some complexity, but not worth the price nor trying to find this out of the ordinary. I sampled this 50 cL bottle purchased from New Beer Distributors in New York, New York on 19-June-2015 for US$12,00 sampled at home in Washington on 04-October-2015.
