A great Christmas Ale; a very pleasing nose with hints if spice and vanilla. It pours dark with a nice creamy head. The taste is a bit unique with almost a sour start leading to a full mouth experience. This is not a beer for the new craft beer virgin, but it is a beer they will grow to love. krumbum (1109) - truckee, California, USA - NOV 23, 2013
Smells of raisins and figs. Thick deep dark brown color. Thick maltyness with a wine like streak that peaks out and then fades back in to the malty sweetness. Thick leaves a slight sour behind imbedded in a malty coating. Great winter warmer for the season. Lukaduke (3206) - Gray, Maine, USA - DEC 15, 2013
Pours a deep rusty umber color with two fingers of thick khaki foam that laces nicely. The nose is rustic old oak, vanilla, burnt sugar and traces of vinous fruit and a touch of cardboard. The palate follows with a complex array of flavors that all fall in place nicely. Hints of plum, burnt sugar, pine needles, nougat, coffee, orange peel, sour cherry... damn this thing is packed with intricate flavors that are like a massively complex oxidized old ale ! Digging It. Pours a very deep chestnut with a smaller bubbly off white head. Aroma of oak, bourbon, vanilla, dark fruits and caramel. Flavor of tart cherries, dark fruits, vanilla and caramel. Nice oak character as well.

2013 bottle to a tulip glass. Pours a muddy brown with a good sized off-white head (surprising for the abv). Oily lacing that leaves a yellow, clingy residue. Aroma is sweet, tart, dark fruits, (mostly cherry), chocolate, caramel, with the touch of whiskey booziness. Taste is all the above with some nuttiness and smokiness on the end. Only a slight hint of the alcohol. Full, oily mouthfeel. Balanced, complex and delicious.

Pours a murky brown with a small off white head that retains fairly well and has good lacing. Aroma is nutty with chocolate, dark fruit, caramel and a little whiskey. Taste is both sweet and slightly tart with dark fruits, chocolate, caramel and some oak flavor. A bit of whiskey but not a big booziness. Full mouthfeel with medium carbonation. Finishes semi dry. Wonderful aroma and nice big comforting flavors. Really good. drowland (8676) - Georgia, USA - JAN 12, 2014
1/12/13. 500mL bottle from John’s. Thanks, pepsican. Amber pour with a small khaki head. Nice aroma, seems barrel aged as opposed to oak, sweet booziness, vanilla, nice sweetness, a touch of funk and tartness. Nice flavor as well, lightly sweet, oak, vanilla, touches of roast, light funk and tartness. wlajwl (6806) - Quad Cities, Iowa, USA - JAN 12, 2014
Aroma is dark fruit, barrel aging/fruit, raspberries, malts and a good hint of tartness. The flavor is raspberries, malts, mild/medium sweetness, dark fruit and an acidic and a warming alcoholic finish. AndyW68 (1542) - Louisville, Kentucky, USA - FEB 21, 2014
