3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
12oz waxed bottle served in a Prairie teku.
A - Pitch black body with a firm espresso head on top. Retention is nice and uniform.
S - Rich chocolate, whiskey, oak, alcohol, charred chicory, vanilla.
T - Roasted/charred chocolate malts, vanilla, whiskey, grassy/herbal hops, chicory coffee, there’s sweetness but it can’t compete with the roast and dry wood. The finish is semi-sweet and slightly bitter with a very dry close.
M - Lighter body than I expected, but still quite smooth, extremely dry finish.
The vanilla is light but adds a nice touch to heavily roasted malt base and melds well with the whiskey. The body was light and smooth but seemed to lack that decadent feel I was hoping from an oatmeal stout.

12 ounce bottle in the lineup for the rest of the variance. This is probably my favorite of the bunch. Pours out black topped with a small tan head. Nose is nice roast malt chocolate vanilla The Bourbon Barrel shows through well a little Ash. Taste is more of the vanilla Bourbon Barrel forward Chocolat Roast malts coffee and a little touch of ashtray koleminer20 (3956) - Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA - JUL 14, 2017
Shared at the Prairie Everything Dark/Kill Your Liver Extravaganza at Jeff’s House on July 1. 12 oz bottle, 2015 vintage. The pour is a lighter black with a thin ring of medium khaki colored head and no lace at all when it fades away. The aroma is full of vanilla bitterness. There is a strong oak and chocolate malt with a nice char and a bitter roast on the back end. There is just a touch of alcohol, but this is really good and full of vanilla bean. The flavor is just as good. The roasted and scorched malts are lovely and the vanilla is full and heavy. There is a little bit of bourbon present that I definitely like. The mouth feel is medium to heavy bodied with a soft carbonation and a lingeringly vanilla heavy bourbon and oak heavy bitterness. This is a damn good beer. 8 4 9 4 16 ebone1988 (2122) - Dearborn, Michigan, USA - JUL 1, 2017
Bottle shared at the Prairie Stout Extravaganza. Aroma is vanilla heavy, whiskey, roasted malt, coffee, good. Appearance is dark dark brown, light brown head, poured thinnish. Taste is vanilla, roasted malt, coffee, chocolate, whiskey, barrel. Mouthfeel is medium to heavy body, light carbonation, vanilla and roasted malt aftertaste. Overall, it’s solid. mikeymike (75) - Kansas, USA - MAY 4, 2017
12 oz bottle, 2016 vintage. Pours black with minimal mocha head. Aroma is boozy vanilla, dark chocolate, and malt. Taste is again boozy vanilla followed by roasty malts...is much hotter than the other noirs. Mouthfeel is medium-medium plus. Overall, a very good BA vanilla stout from prairie. I prefer the coffee noir, but if you can have them both, make a cuvee, and it is out of this world. thomashall (999) - New Hope, Minnesota, USA - APR 7, 2017
12oz bottle. Dark motor oil pour. Whiskey vanilla mostly on the nose. This is amazing, lots of vanilla but not too much. So well balanced, so delicious.

Bottle shared by Tom - thanks! Dark motor oil pour, massive vanilla aroma. Mild whiskey that is very complementary. Slick palate. Great! samneeeee (27) - colorado springs, Colorado, USA - MAR 22, 2017
Pours a very dark brown with very little head. The nose is pretty whiskey heavy actually, with a bit of oak, chocolate and of course, vanilla. Taste is pretty complex, with the vanilla really shining through in the middle of a sip. Again, chocolate, whiskey, vanilla and a nice alcohol burn. dinkle50 (1531) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - MAR 1, 2017
Jet black pour with a very thin espresso colored head, which faded quickly. Aroma is full of whiskey, chocolate and vanilla. Aroma is a bit like rum butter ice cream. Full mouth, thick and viscous. Taste is full of vanilla that just lingers in your mouth with hints of chocolate and whiskey. Just loads of vanilla, not too sweet. Slight alcohol burn. Amazing beer. Bottled at Clubhouse BFD event. Pours black, tan head. Aroma is very sweet vanilla milkshake notes, with some bourbon, and even more vanilla. It’s thick. Flavor is vanilla, creamy notes, chocolate, a little roasty, some bourbon, and toffee. Super creamy. Thick vanilla milkshake drink. Barely even beer at that point. Just like a vanilla chocolate milkshake. Very good. ansalon (4119) - Stockholm, SWEDEN, SWEDEN - FEB 16, 2017
Pours black with almost no head. Aromas of chocolate, caramel, brown sugar, vanilla, roasted malt, oak character, slight liquorice. Taste has a very nice depth with loads of caramel and oak along with muscovado sugar and some burnt notes and vanilla. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with a nice smoothness. Some alcohol burn.
