12oz bottle from Ray's in Tosa. About black pour with a brown head leaving some streaky lacing. Aroma is huge bitter roasted coffee. Underneath there is a vanilla layer, but that huge roast leads. Taste is of big roast, tangy coffee beans, sweet caramel malts, some light lactose and a solid vanilla underlayer. The nose is so hit-you-in-the-face roast, with vanilla, and the flavor adds a lot more pieces, but almost disappoints in comparison. Still solid but not what the nose promises. Full bodied, with some alcohol presence - although, 13% seems extreme. The blend is very good. Finishes quite to the bitter roasty side of bittersweet. Would be curious to go head-to-head with Sump, as this is similar to my - admittedly vague - memory of that excellent brew. Very enjoyable. The vanilla as a bigger player would be very interesting, so will need to look for one of those in this variant group. 16.8 mar (5504) - Dallas, Texas, USA - APR 9, 2018

Taste is full and rich, coffee, dark chocolate, roasted malts, it isn't overlly sweet, some bitterness, booze. It's heavy and rich and little hard going, I couldn't do the whole series in one night.
