TAR (2729) - Marshall (Asheville area), North Carolina, USA - JAN 13, 2013
Bottled on August, 2012: Golden amber. Persistent white head deposits wispy lace on the glass. Pleasant nose of lilac, cherimoya, vanilla cake, candied lemon peel, grassy herbs, tangerine, and white pepper. Hint of candy sugar and gum. Fine carbonation. Moderate punch of alcohol succumbs to a plasticlike phenolic snap upfront. Succulent hop smack joins the refined tangerine juice residuals which gracefully coat the tongue with a flowery brightness. Semi-candyish in sweetness, yet rather than hampering quaffability, the sugars lend tremendous depth. Ample counterbalancing crispness abounds as the sophisticated pils malt gains more vigor from the peppery yeast. Some wheatlike slickness in there, as well. Complex hoppiness ranges from coarsely leafy and bracingly herbaceous to lapping the palate with a Stryianesque lilac-tinged suppleness and ensuing waves of palate-stinging oils. Hints of chalk exude from the fairly high resin content (Columbus?), though plenty of floral elegance remains to keep it from becoming distracting or fatiguing. Well-attenuated finish features a soft mandarin orange explosiveness and a well-textured cakey malt base laced with sassy phenolic fervor and an intricate hop continuation. A tad resinous for my tastes, but theres plenty of sublime yeast byproducts to make up for it. Comes off as a saison splashed with tripel. Pretty, indeed.

balloonbuffoon (145) - - APR 2, 2017
From a 22floz bottle to a tulip glass, 05.2015 bottling date notched. Paid a discounted price of $4, a 6.4% ABV noted. Presents itself with a lemony-floral nose, and a slightly hazy yellow-orange body and one-finger sustaining head. This beer does not hold up well with time, a fresher option is not available as this is no longer brewed. Flavors of lemon rinds, cheerios, and a medicinal bitter after taste provide an unpleasant drinking experience...

Bottle, sampled in a glass, the label on my bottle was different than the label displayed on RB, and it listed 6.4% alc. not 6.5% alc. as noted on RateBeer, this ale was a less than medium yellow with some orange hues in the glass, there was some haze and the pour gave a white cover one to two fingers thick, it left nice spots fingers and some sheets of lacing on the glass, it had nice presentation, the nose had aromas of lemon and orange citrus fruit, some floral notes with spice, faint herb like notes in the background, some funk, light pale malt, faint bread, and a little malt and bread sweetness, the flavors were lemon with orange fruit, a little pear fruit, light pale malt, some spice and a little malt sweetness, the finish had a light hop bitterness with some sour citrus and white pepper spice that gave some dryness on the tongue, citrus and sour fruit trailed afterwards, the mouth feel was a light medium to medium, it was creamy and had soft to average carbonation, the carbonation was lighter than I expected and gave the beer a heavier feel on the palate, I think more carbonation would help this drink, this beer was a nice saison drink, it had a bit of funk which I like in a saison, the only complaint would be that the carbonation was lighter than I would expect from a saison ale drink, I think more carbonation would improve this beer.

Big offwhite head. Clear deep yellow body. Complex fruity earthy herbal aroma with floral pea and citrus notes. Sweetish earthy fruity peas taste with lemony mealy notes. Mid-bodied. Mild, soft, mealy mouthfeel. Dryish lemony peas and earth aftertaste with wooden mealy floral notes. Herbal lingering finish. Well. This was really nice. Complex, full of flavour, harmonic, and drinkable. (0.65l bottle, from Fish & Beer, Copenhagen.)

Bomber. Creamy nose with apples, some malt. Hazy bright yellow color. Mild stone fruit, peach perhaps, something tropical, and gentle bittering in mid and final. Thin-medium body (a bit heavy for a saison). Tasty, but quite thick and heavy, and moving off in a new direction for a saison.
