4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
I was just going to enjoy this, but the low review average confuses and upsets me enough to inspire a review.
Yellow-gold color with a creamy white head that retains well and leaves a nice spotty lacing. Smells of ginger, citrus zest, musty, earthy, spicy, and also somewhat floral. Taste is spicy up front while quickly moving into a bready taste with some citrus before moving into an earthy finish. Somewhat high carbonation with a medium body, but still a somewhat dry finish.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle, sampled in a glass, the label on my bottle was different than the label displayed on RB, and it listed 6.4% alc. not 6.5% alc. as noted on RateBeer,
this ale was a less than medium yellow with some orange hues in the glass, there was some haze and the pour gave a white cover one to two fingers thick, it left nice spots fingers and some sheets of lacing on the glass, it had nice presentation,
the nose had aromas of lemon and orange citrus fruit, some floral notes with spice, faint herb like notes in the background, some funk, light pale malt, faint bread, and a little malt and bread sweetness,
the flavors were lemon with orange fruit, a little pear fruit, light pale malt, some spice and a little malt sweetness,
the finish had a light hop bitterness with some sour citrus and white pepper spice that gave some dryness on the tongue, citrus and sour fruit trailed afterwards,
the mouth feel was a light medium to medium, it was creamy and had soft to average carbonation,
the carbonation was lighter than I expected and gave the beer a heavier feel on the palate,
I think more carbonation would help this drink,
this beer was a nice saison drink, it had a bit of funk which I like in a saison,
the only complaint would be that the carbonation was lighter than I would expect from a saison ale drink,
I think more carbonation would improve this beer.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Big offwhite head. Clear deep yellow body. Complex fruity earthy herbal aroma with floral pea and citrus notes. Sweetish earthy fruity peas taste with lemony mealy notes. Mid-bodied. Mild, soft, mealy mouthfeel. Dryish lemony peas and earth aftertaste with wooden mealy floral notes. Herbal lingering finish. Well. This was really nice. Complex, full of flavour, harmonic, and drinkable. (0.65l bottle, from Fish & Beer, Copenhagen.)

Newly on shelf 5/16. Belgium yeast aroma and taste is typical saison. Lots of body for the style.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bomber. Clear light gold. Nose is light pepper, some fruity tripel like yeast elements, light Juicyfruit. Taste is wheat, fruity yeast elements but an unfortunate fusel quality. Didn’t want to finish it.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bomber. Creamy nose with apples, some malt. Hazy bright yellow color. Mild stone fruit, peach perhaps, something tropical, and gentle bittering in mid and final. Thin-medium body (a bit heavy for a saison). Tasty, but quite thick and heavy, and moving off in a new direction for a saison.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Older bomber from biergenot.be, cheers Davey! Thin but stable, egg-white, moussy head breaking quickly in the middle, over a warm, deep golden coloured beer with light orange hue, clear initially but misty with small yeast bits here and there as the bottle progresses and ending in a milky haze, with calm fizz dying out after a while. Aroma of buttermilk, persimmon, smokey overripe papaja, something sulfuric (probably yeast autolysis), dried lemon peel, fermenting hay, candied lemon, old sherry (the onset of oxidation, I presume), apricot, tomato, clove-like phenols, old cheese, mouldy orange, chicken spices, cigarette tobacco, toasted bread, mango, dry white wine, gin, old dry wormwood. Fruity, sweetish onset, some ’Belgian’ banana and gooseberry but restrainedly so, sourish undercurrent effectively balancing out this sweetness, hints of papaja and orange, softish carbo, slick and smooth malt body, caramelly with a bittering toasted edge in the end, enhanced by a spicy, leafy hop bitterness, yielding floral aromas retronasally and leaving a mildly but sufficiently bitter coating in the back of the mouth; caramelly malt sweetness lasts the longest, but there is a gin-like alcohol flavour far away at the back as well, which should not be this apparent in a 6.5% ABV beer, yet does not become wry anywhere; a lemon candy-like flavor lingers too, doubting between sweet and sour. Past its prime, that much is clear, but since 6.5% saisons should be able to survive some years of cellaring, this shows too many signs of autolysis already, with a less pleasant sulfuric effect as a result; I can, however, vividly imagine this being very crisp and quaffable when young (and more ’lively’ hoppy). Flavor is acceptable though, but, as with so many ’new generation saisons’ even in Belgium itself, I fail to see how this is a saison and not an ordinary Belgian blonde - it seems the difference, if any, has completely faded due to craft beer experimentation. Decent beer, but I think more carbonation and an overall ’drier’ profile would have make this qualify as a saison much more.
