33cl bottle from Systembolaget. It poured a dark brown, almost black colour with a small light-brown head that vanished quickly in the glass. Aroma is malts and chocolate. Maybe a tad of coffee. The flavour is flat and a bit metallic which is a feat considering it came from a bottle. Notes of roasted malts and chocolate. It has a short aftertaste. 18-Apr-07 (500-ml bottle: Obtained 23-Oct-06 in an international trade with bogdi1, thanks Juha!) The label date of 27-Feb-07 is preceded by several Czech words and is assumed to be the "drink by" date. Aromas of toasty malt, toffee, brown sugar, and sweet, dark fruits mingle with a bit of tartness for an unusual but not unenjoyable combination. The pronounced malt flavor is toasty, caramely and quite sweet, and that sugary (rather than malty) sweetness suggests the addition of sucrose, though it isn’t specifically listed among the ingredients. Plenty of toffee, plus mild banana and chocolate, with an occasional hint of smokiness in the finish as the beer begins to warm up. Medium-bodied on the palate, with low carbonation. Medium brown and perfectly clear, the beer is topped by a small and quickly receding dark tan head that leaves no lacing. I can’t say this tastes like a high-quality beer, but I still enjoyed the overall experience.
