Pours a nice, slightly hazy amber brown with a very thin tan head that faded quickly. Decent collar and lacing. Aroma is boozey, toffee and earthy. Taste is earthy-sweet toffee, boozey (rum?) and dark stone fruits. Medium body and low carbonation.
Growler. Aroma of Bourbon!! and vanilla. Taste is smooth and balanced butterscotch. Leighton (21256) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - FEB 25, 2014
Growler shared during RBWG 2014 - Asheville. Pours clear amber with a foamy cap. Lots of ripe fruit action here, some caramel, rich sugars. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Lightly sticky to finish with more rich fruits, hints of wood. OK. DrSilverworm (9671) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - FEB 17, 2014
Growler shared during RBWG 2014. Clear red orange brown color. Thin khaki head. Dots and ropes of lace. Awesome big rye whiskey aroma in the nose, very complex. Some caramel, toasty malt. Chocolate notes. Very nice moderate bitter taste, moderate sweet, and a light heat. Bigger body, lighter, smooth carbonation, more dry finish. Very impressive barrel aged scotch ale. chinchill (5023) - South Carolina, USA - FEB 16, 2014
Pour from a growler brought to RBWG-2014 by the brewery.
Pours clear dark red-brown;mvery good head.
Aroma: lots of rye barrel; sweet.
Flavor: a bit more rye barrel influence than optimal. No burnt grains.
Medium-bodied, with moderate carbonation phaleslu (10267) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - FEB 16, 2014
Pour from a growler at RBWG. Pours a clear amber with a small beige head. The aroma is off. Too fruity. Notes of oak, rye whiskey, apples and caramel. Medium-bodied, with moderate carbonation and a sweet mouthfeel. Not sure if it’s the barrel treatment or that it didn’t keep in a growler, but this didn’t work for me.

From growler shared at rbwg. Fairly sweet, brown sugary scotch ale. Light spice from the rye but more barrel/wood is imparted. Okay. GT (10000) - San Diego, California, USA - FEB 12, 2014

>> Thanks bsmitty for the pour! Clear red pour, bubbles, no head. Big red apple nose, growler probably went flat in transit and oxidized. Taste is coconut, nice sweetness, pretty nice besides the nose. Rich, not boozy, palate with a woody barrel finish. In better shape, this would be quite the solid beer. I think the recipe is looking great on this one. Sadly, didn’t travel well in growler. Thanks for the share!
Growler. Pours clear tawny with a medium, frothy beige head, medium retention with good lacing. Aroma is fresh wet oak, vanilla, dates, bourbon, caramel and toffee malt with earthy hops. Flavor is sweet malt, oak, vanilla, caramel, dates, figs, light hops and bitterness with a sweet finish. Full body and medium carbonation. DialSquare (5030) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - JAN 26, 2014
On tap at Proof. Should preface by saying, not only am I not a scotch guy, but it puts me off a bit... Dark brown pour with a thin tan head. Aroma is scotch... and maybe a little woody. Tastes are scotch... and maybe toasted malts and toffee. Seems to be a bit going on, but couldn’t get past the boozyness. Not my bag.
