2 year old bottle. Deep dark brown with beastly a tint on the side with a thin tan head. Smells of slight herbal hops, coffee and chocolate roast, dark malt and mocha. Still a bit bubbly after two years but smooth. Starts sweet and finishes dry and bitter without any hint of the 8%. Lots of chocolate and mocha with fudge - by the way, I paired this with chocolate fudge cheese. Pours a solid black color with a huge frothy tan head that persists forever. Vinous chocolate fudge and caramel maltiness dominate the aroma. Light earthy floral round out the nose. The flavor is rich thick chocolate caramel and roast with quite a vinous fruity edge to it. Light smoke and earth round us out nicely. Medium body with a light level of carbonation and a rich creamy ashy mouthfeel. Wow thats a pretty nice stout right there! Reminds me a lot of Bell’s Expedition, I really enjoyed this. Maybe it’s just me but I really enjoy when the head on a dark beers hangs around for a bit. This one’s didn’t but it was still a great beer. Quite bliggity black, this one, an aroma of coffee, maple, roasty chocolate malt and brown sugar. It’s quite boldly bitter at first with a strong molasses kick but leaves the tongue basking in a light sweet finish. Fairly oily feel to a medium thick body. Very enjoyabeer. I was excited about this one, and it didn’t let me down. Poured black with creamy tan head. Stunk of coffee, nuts, and molasses. Tasted of big molasses, strong coffee, and brown sugar. Very, very dark brown, almost black, with a khaki head. Heavy on the roasted malt aromas with some dark fruit, licorice, and coffee. Dark chocolate, burnt sugar, and a hint of molasses. The flavor is a touch bitter, but has a lot of sweetness from the burnt sugar, licorice, and molasses. Big roasted malt and coffee, some dark chocolate, and a touch of alcohol.
