COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This beer was born for greatness. Sent by English brewers via the Baltic Sea to the court of the Czars, Russian Imperial Stout was brewed to very high gravities and allowed to ferment on the long voyage. The result? A dark, strong and bracing brew, imbibed by Peter, adored by Catherine and now reclaimed by you, the People. Za Vas!

Amazing brew. Excellent lacing with tiny cascading bubbles; a true beaute to watch. And the mouthfeel is nice and thick in the bitter finish especially, like a wine loaded with tannins. But it all starts with the aroma with this one. One of the best i smelled in a while. Maple first with cocoa second and buttered rum close behind. Nice and roasty as well. Especially in the taste; roasty with bitter astringency, yet mellowed by a classic, natural old school sweetness. Think molasses, butterscotch; not the shite kind, but the old fashioned homemade pure stuff. PS: I noticed the fall season in Ontario developed a unified surge of pumpkin beer all the way. Now in the winter, its imperial stouts. And its much better! And so far this my fave.

Aroma smoked malt, coffee and a hint of chocolate. Pours an opaque dark black color with a well laced tan head. A taste of smoked malt, espresso and a hint of bitter chocolate with a full bodied slightly oily feel and a smoked malt finish.

(Emb.12/16) (1939-300816)

One finger of persistent tan head, fluffy. Nice lacing. Very dark brown / black colour. Cocoa, toffee, prune, light roast aromas. Matching flavours. Strong chocolate and molasses, dark crystal/caramel sweetness. Roastiness comes through more in the aftertaste. Creamy medium-full mouthfeel. Medium carbonation.

My Bottom Line:
This luscious Imperial Stout relies on roasted raisins, diversified by a few green hop moments, peppery bitterness and mild alcohol warmth.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A persistent head of foam thrones atop the darkness.
-The mouthfeel is appropriately rich yet the carbonation manages to make everything feel smooth and easy.
-Alcohol is not a bother at all.
-The finish is not as intense as the flavor profile.

Bottle.

2 year old bottle. Deep dark brown with beastly a tint on the side with a thin tan head. Smells of slight herbal hops, coffee and chocolate roast, dark malt and mocha. Still a bit bubbly after two years but smooth. Starts sweet and finishes dry and bitter without any hint of the 8%. Lots of chocolate and mocha with fudge - by the way, I paired this with chocolate fudge cheese. Great after two years and totally worth the wait.
