Bottle, shared with my wife, TvM, and Kirsten-- my last beer from this brewery, and I must say that all of their offerings have been consistently underwhelming, especially at $20 per bottle. The colour of long-steeped Red Rose Tea, crowned by an over carbonated finely bubbled head (at least this one wasn’t a gusher!). Aroma is caramel and old pennies with herbal undertones. A steady, soft pour into my large Tripel Karmeliet tulip produces a voluminous, sink overflowing, amber stained, tan colored head. The beer is a concentrated amber / dark-brown color that shows a brilliantly clear, madly streaming, deep red / clear brown hue when held up to the light. The aroma has a weird herbal note to it; it is a mix of berry notes, and astringent leaning, grassy, herbal character. There is an earthy, woody leaning, toasted, whole grain, caramelized, maltiness, as well as a sort of sharp cola like, definitely herbal, perhaps anise leaning, cardamom like spice character.
The beer has a light, fruity sweetness to it up front, but picks up a balancing light tartness in the middle and a bitter, herbal note in the finish. Flavors of raisin juice (is there such a thing?), grassy herbal notes as well as spice notes of clove, touches of anise, and cardamom in the finish. The malt is supporting to the herbal and fruit notes here, but does contribute whole grain, caramelized, brown bread notes. The fruit character leans towards dark plums, caramelized, but dry, apples. The body is fairly light, but there is a some viscous heft here keeps it from being overly thin, and actually even is a bit chewy at times.
A tasty beer that had to grow on me a bit. The herbal character had a weird, stale beer / metallic character to it at first, but this seems to go away after a short bit and this becomes a nicely balanced beer.
Clear mahogany color with lasting tan head. Earthy dark caramel, blackberry jam, herbal dusty aromas. Light bodied with average carbonation. Berry fruit, dry herbal, toasted caramel flavors____not bad.

Bottle:   Darker caramel, thin foamy tannish head, somewhat nice lacing.   Big shrubby nose, a touch of pencil shavings, very woody, fresh shavings, herbal.   Soft floral start, herbal, shrubby, with fresh wood shavings on the tongue.   Thankfully no so much on the graphite (pencil).   Very interesting beer.   Soft to mild sweetness.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate to full.   Comes across as very natural, old worldly, and ancient.   Wished it were a bit brighter and sweeter, but it was clean and different.
