3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottled April 2013
This one pours hazy amber with a near solid sheet of lightly toasted cream foam. Bitter orange peel, some cracker malts, some bitter herbs, some clay and sweet belgian yeast character in the nose. Maybe some tea and allspice (very, very faintly) in there as well - almost a chicory character on the very finish of the nose. Flavor is thick with belgian yeast character, some bitterness, some tea, some more orange peel, a little dandelion, some bitter oak and ink. Medium bodied with a light carb and a dry finish. This is okay, but not up to par with the other two I’ve had from the brewery.
Bottle. Hazy caramel color with a massive lasting ivory head. Caramel, dry herbal aromas. Medium body with lively carbonation. Tangy black pepper, sweet caramel flavors with some light toast, herbs___good. FlacoAlto (4197) - Tucson, Arizona, USA - NOV 30, 2013
A soft pour into myNew Belgium globe glass producesa three-finger thick, andincreasinglyrising, overflowing, pale amber tinged, tan colored head. The beer is a rich, caramelized amber color that shows a lightly hazy, bright amber hue when held up to the light. The aroma has a bright fruitiness to it up front that is a mix of berry notes, floral apple, and red plums; this is backed by caramelized, toasted whole grain cracker leaning, English biscuit like maltiness. The fruitiness is definitely accentuated by malt sweetness. There is a light, underlying, but noticeable herbal character here that is more floral in character than anything, but has a spicy, herbaceousbite to it somehow, yet is not overly so.bu11zeye (13029) - Frisco (Dallas), Texas, USA - OCT 3, 2013
Floral apple, sweet plums, and light currant notes up front continue on through to the finish where it is joined by some chewy malt flavors that leans towards caramelized whole grain crackers, and perhaps a touch of a floral-spice / herbal-bite. The body is light, but has a definitely viscous quality to it, and is quite quaffable; the carbonation starts out being quite expressively prickly, but despite remaining well carbonation . Some higher alcohols accentuating a touch of warming / heat, but only just so, and more accentuate the fruit notes in this beer than anything. There is a touch of a malt edge in the finish that is definitely nutty, and perhaps even a hint of roasted like character, but definitely has a pale toasted / caramelized edge to it; there is lots of caramelized malt character here though, and even a hint of toffee like character at times.
Not bad, quite enjoyable even; it is not quite my ideal of a Saison though (even a spring time one), as it is a bit too caramelized and fruity with out enough balancing bite and lightness. Still this is pretty tasty, but I have no idea what herbs / spices were used here as they are subtle enough that nothing is jumping out at me.
(750ml bottle, courtesy of Mora2000) Pours a hazy golden body with a medium white head. Aroma of herbs, florals, earth, and grass. Flavor of florals, herbs, light sulfur, earth, dried apple, yeast, and honey. Mora2000 (6158) - McKinney, Texas, USA - OCT 2, 2013
Thanks to 5000 for sending me this bottle. Always happy to have a new beer from Propolis. Hazy orange pour with a white head. The aroma is very herbaceous with some mint, biscuit malt and rosemary notes. The flavor is similar with a lot of herbs, some menthol, biscuit malt and toffee malt. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Smooth lace atop the copper body. Smoked a little, odd aroma, spicy, strange. Flowery and funky. Weird; doesn't really work for me. 5000 (6862) - Hardened Liver, Washington, USA - SEP 19, 2013
Bottle:   Fireweed honey in color, hazy, large foamy white head, fairly nice lacing.   Herbal nose, faint earth, some mountain shrubbiness.   Spritzy on the tongue, light sweetness, pale breadiness, herbal, floral, shrubby, but not as earthy as the nose suggested.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate to full.   Seems hefty, yet also fairly bubbley, almost too bubbley.   Finishes clean, lingering notes of pale wheat, dried grasses, flora and fauna.   Very interesting, and again, one of those beers you keep drinking to try and figure out.   Yeasty bits linger after the finish.   Pretty damn tasty!   Just needs more bright floral notes and it would be outta the park! Bottle: The aroma consists of honey, apple, faint banana, and spice. It pours a hazy amber with a two finger off-white/beige head with excellent retention. There is some soapy webbing left on the sides of the glass. The flavor starts with honey and faint banana. The finish has light-moderate apple with spice and pepper. It’s light-medium bodied with moderate-lively carbonation.
750, capped. Pours a cloudy dark brown with a dense and creamy off white head that sticks around. Big herbal nose, showing lots of mint and sage along with some grassy and floral notes. Creamy medium body with lively carb. Caramel and herbal notes on the mid palate. Flavors need to be sharper and body needs to be lighter and crisper, and then this could be something. Long mildly sweet herbal finish. riversideAK (6261) - Shoreline, Washington, USA - APR 23, 2013
Nose of bubblegumy yeast spicy pepper and herbal notes somewhat floral perfumey potpurri or some shit. Pours amber no head some haze. Flavors of phenolic bubblegum potpurri floral notes some light caramel light herbal and peppery more bubble gum and rustic earthy notes linger in finish. If there were less of a yeast presence id probably like it more. Not flawed not my favorite.
