PROPOLIS IS G.O.A.T. GAME RECOGNIZE GAME. I like just about anything Propolis has ever touched, but Urtica is one of my favorites. The Belgian yeast profile works beautifully with the nettles. The nettles seem to function a little bit like earthy hops, balancing nicely with butterscotch. This beer is DIVINE

Brilliant amber color with lasting ivory sheen. Minty, rootbeer spice, toast, herbal, earthy molasses aromas. Medium body with average carbonation. Lightly sweet dark caramel, toasty, spicy dubbel style base brew with herbal, vegetal flavors____not bad.

A steady pour into my large Tripel Karmeliet tulip produces a three-finger thick, light amber tinged, tan colored head. The beer is a dark, almost cherry, red color that shows a brilliantly clear, richly red stained, copper hue when held up to the light. the aroma smells of light berry and citrus character up front, but then picks up a sort of savory character, but really a lightly toasted maltiness that provides a touch of sweetness. There is an almost smokiness here in the aroma though, a slightly ham like note even that matches with the caramelized malt character that is here. There is a big grassy character here that has a peppery note to it that is quite green and herbal somehow.

The beer has a light sweetness to it up front that comes from a caramelized malt character. The finish has a spiciness, a bit of green, grassy, herbal character, as well as a prickly, carbonic character. The middle has a touch of savory character to it, not as smoky as the nose, but the same character; almost umami like, though lightly so, it really makes me wonder what is contributing this character, it is an unexpected, but welcome addition to this beer. There is almost a cola like character to the finish, or really it is a bit more reminiscent of birch beer somehow. The beer has a definite chewiness to it that is a bit more toothsome than I was expecting; it is still quite quaffable though, but is a beer that certainly has a bit of savor to it.

The balance of malt character, herbal nettle, and spicy, earthy fermentation character is quite well done. The beer is a bit more chewy than I was expecting, but this is actually quite nice in an unexpected way. The savory character here was also quite unexpected, but really works and adds an extra dimension to this beer, making it more complex, and characterful.

Bottled 04/2013 "Ale brewed with Nettles and Herbs" This one pours a nice dusted gold with a near solid sheet of light tan foam. Smells of clove, banana, grass, some thyme, belgian yeast in the nose, maybe some rose hips even. Flavor is nice and bready, slightly sweet, some dandelion, banana, some hits of bitter tea; there seems to be an underlying tartness Im unable to really get to, like a very subtle yogurt. Medium bodied with a low carb and an off dry finish. A good drinking beer, Im glad to have had this one as well.

Thanks to 5000 for sending this bottle to me. Orange pour with a white head. The aroma has some toffee and caramel notes as well as a good dose of menthol character. The flavor is similar but with more herbs. I get some menthol, toffee and caramel notes up front with the addition of some juniper, thyme and some light smoke. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Bottle:   Dark straw, a bit of an orangish hue, thick, moderate frothty off-white head, spotty lacing.   Bright nettle and dandelion on the nose.   Light shrubbiness.   Bright up front, floral, nettles, light dandelion.   Backside is very herbal, slightly shrubby, with a plethora of woodsy/meadow like spices.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate to full.   Finishes with lots of nettles, dandelion, and bright grasses/weeds.   Yeah, this beer is weedy!   Not the greatest, but bright and different.

From an elegant 750ml green bottle. Dark orange pour with lots of haze, thin and small beige head. Nose has some fruitiness, banana, floral. Taste has caramel malt, herbs, banana and floral notes. A bit yeasty at the end with some mild herbal notes. Light body and soft carbonation. Interesting beer.

Bottle - Honey, spice, banana and woodsy. Cloudy orange with a thin head. Vinous and banana with a herbal bitterness. The finish is that herbal bitterness. An interesting beer, but once only.
