Cask conditioned at Barons Bar, Southport. Black with cream head. This had just gone on and was hit by the waiting hordes, seemed to be popular. Nice, dry roasty malts filling up the background flavours with yes, a nutty bitter flavour to the fore. I must say, i am enjoying Mild May this year, there have been some good ones to try.

Dark beige frothy head left a cover on a very dark brown opaque, still body - Looks great! Chocolate, roast malt, coffee & demerara sugar aroma. Thin on the palate - surprisingly crisp & clean - quite pert on the tongue. Dry. Almost sour flavours, tangy, roasted something. What a strange one. This looked & smelled dark & sweet but was incredibly bitter & sour.

Pours a finger of tan head on a dark brown body. The aroma is roasted malt and cocoa. The taste is roasted malt, mild coffee with a touch of chocolate. The texture is smooth with low carbonation. It’s quite tasty and complex.

Bottle. Dark chestnut, creamy golden-brown. Almond, salt licorice light roast aromatics. Surprisingly full and chewy, mellow mouthfeel. Roast grains, licorice, light grassy notes. Bordering a porter, delicious.
