On tap at Prost, pours an amber brown with small off white head. Notes of sweet malt, bread, cherries, plum, candy sugar and other sweet stuff. The alcohol is well hidden for the percent but this wasn’t for me. Too sweet NachlamSie (3479) - Denver, Colorado, USA - JUL 5, 2016
Bottle from Mile High. I see this is rated a 43. What a joke. Contrary to the ratings, this is a wonderful and faithful example of the style. The appearance of this doppelbock is great. The body is crystal clear with a rich, dark ruby color and a tall head. The aroma is full and malty and most importantly, devoid of any flaws. Hearty notes of chocolate, toffee, figs, and banana bread come through. The body is fairly heavy and sweet. Many other American breweries leave too much sugar behind, but Prost has nailed the appropriate sweetness. Flavors of raisins and brown sugar develop. The lager esters are mild and right in line. This is a hit or miss style for me as many brewers can’t pull off the finesse of the great German examples. This one is a hit. arminjewell (9635) - East Lansing, Michigan, USA - MAR 30, 2015
Pour on tap at the brewery, dark reddish brown pour with off white head, aroma brought notes of toasted bread, toffee, caramel into a bit of dark fruit, some slight herbal, grassy hops, some spice. Taste was a mix of grass, caramel, toffee into more spice, toasted bread, hints of dark fruits, finishing spicy, slightly sweet. Marheb (5749) - San Diego, California, USA - JAN 31, 2015
(Bue en fût sur place): Un corps moelleux comme principal attrait sinon les sucres sont grossiers et encombrants. Le voile des houblons sauve l’équilibre de justesse. Ernest (7692) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - JAN 18, 2015
Head is initially small, frothy, light brown, mostly diminishing.
Body is medium to dark brown.
Aroma is moderately malty (caramel, toasted grain/bread), lightly hoppy (flowers, herbs), with light notes of honey, gum.
Flavor is moderately to heavily sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter.
Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly to moderately bitter.
Medium body, watery/syrupy texture, lively carbonation, lightly alcoholic.
Fairly good...nice aroma that allows both malt and hops to shine through. Kinda flabby in the mouth but still mostly drinkable. A simple but decent effort from a struggling brewery.

January 29th, 2013 - Prost’s Doppelbock is the only sample of brew from this lager obsessed brewery that I didn’t like. In fact, I couldn’t even drink it. Soy sauce and teriyaki join to make the aroma, and appear in the taste too - the beer, carbonated version of teriyaki sauce, and not in any good or appealing way. Each sip brings all the "wrongness" of chugging a marinade straight from the bottle, and I am quickly drawn to the previous samplers to cleanse my palate. On tap at brewery and from growler. Poured into an Aventinus glass. Pours brown with large head and lace. Aroma of rich malts, caramel, brown sugar. Medium carbonation and mouthfeel. Flavors of brown malts, caramel, slight toffee, banana, toast, molasses. Overall very flavorful and easy drinking...not as rich as an Aventinus, but worthy of buying a rather expensive growler refill if you enjoy this style. On tap at the brewery. Pour is deep amber with a small tan head and good lacing. Caramel, dark fruity, toffee, bready, slightly toasty, and raisins in the aroma. Taste is red licorice, brown sugar, slightly grassy, caramel, toasted bread, figs, and toffee. Medium body with high carbonation. Ok. ajnepple (6606) - Denver, Colorado, USA - DEC 12, 2013
On tap at Colorado Plus. Deep amber/copper and clear with minimal head. Aroma and flavor is rich and malty with caramel, toffee, honey, molasses, earthy, light bitter hops and a touch of smoke. Sweet flavor hides the alcohol well.
