3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
12 oz bottle into a pint glass.
A: Pours a dark copper color - it’s even a bit darker than I expect from most IPAs. The head forms a two-finger offwhite shade, and features a soft creaminess. Retention isn’t great, though, but there’s some nice lacing left down the glass.
S: I really don’t get much hops here. The hoppiness I do detect, however, is quite pleasant, with notes of mango and grapefruit. This really strikes me as malty - and not the good kind either, more of the "way too much crystal malt" kind. As such, caramel and toffee abound.
T: Slight citrusy hops flash themselves on the palate at first. However, it’s quickly washed away by tons of caramel, toffee, marzipan, and nutty flavors. Spicy, herbal hops return on the back end. I’m never a huge fan of these "pine-and-crystal-malt" IPAs, and this one in particular is too sweet.
M: This feels bigger than it really is, and that’s not quite a compliment. It’s heavy-feeling on the palate and goes down (relatively) slowly due to lazy carbonation. It’s a bit softer/less coarse than I expected from this kind of IPA, however.
O: It’s just too malty for me. A very average beer: it’s reasonably well made yet forgettable, with a definite ’please the masses’ vibe to it. I wouldn’t buy it again with so many great IPAs on the market.
12oz bottle purchased at the brewery. No date. Pours with a glowing caramel orange color. This is a sweet, malty, caramel beer with fruity yeast accents. The hops are there but a bit second fiddle to the malts, moderate bitterness. None of this is "bad" but absolutely not what I want in a beer, particularly an IPA. They could have called this an amber or red and it would still work. obguthr (6824) - Staunton, Virginia, USA - OCT 31, 2015
Dried leaves nose. Clear amber, thin head. Dried leaves. Medium body, soft carbonation. Very little hop presence. More like an amber. tia (2228) - Sandston, Virginia, USA - OCT 31, 2015

Shared by maniac at the 22nd Richmond Gathering.Clear amber, large foamy tan head, decent retention. Aroma of piney, resin hops, pale malts. The taste is green, herbal hops, pale malt. Medium bodied, mild lingering bitterness. radio_nowhere (1474) - Maryland, USA - JAN 15, 2015
Draft at Buffalo Wild Wings in Frederick, MD. Served in a wheat beer glass, clear copper amber color with off-white head. Aroma of tropical fruity hops (almost reminds me of Hawaiian Punch) and doughy malt sweetness. Taste adds notes of caramel, citrus and grapefruit/pine hop bitterness. Medium-light body, moderate-low carbonation, dry with fruity hop finish. Interesting fruity IPA bordering on too sweet.

On draft. Aroma of toasty toffee. Flavors are toasted malt forward with tart grapefruit. Nice. kramer (6975) - Sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 21, 2014
Bottle. Pours a clear copper body under a small fizzy off-white head that faded to a wispy film. The nose is pretty heavy on the crystal malt, it outweighs the hops by a good margin in the aroma. What hops are in here are slightly floral in nature. The flavor pretty well mimics the aroma as far as the hop-malt balance goes. Hard to think of this as an IPA when the hops are second fiddle to the malt. Lots of sweet crystal and caramel malt up front and a lingering brown sugar note after the lightly bitter hops fade. Medium bodied and a bit clingy with fizzy soft carbonation. Not the kind of IPA I’m looking for. MadRobin (2989) - Silver Spring, Maryland, USA - NOV 19, 2013
