Went to the brewery to grab a growler but of course they were sold out. Bought a couple cans instead. Appearance is clear dark brown with copper around the edges. There is a thin beige head. Aroma is nutty malt. Taste is lightly bitter, with notes of walnut and biscuit. There is a woody hoppiness and a hint of chocolate, caramel and espresso. The body feels light and carbonation is low to moderate, but there is a pleasant mouth coating quality. A tasty brew I look forward to every fall. Can at Tall Boys. Deep amber brown pour with a thick white head. The aroma is quite sweet and toasty. Lift cocoa and brown malt with a bit of light herbal/spicy bitterness in the back. Well-balanced and pretty tasty. Lingering cocoa on the finish. They call this an Irish ale, but it’s a straight-up brown ale; a pretty well-made one at that.

On tap at volo. Dark amber, active white head. Aroma is sweet, dark chocolate, caramel, orange peel, dark fruit. Grainy body. Flavour kind of disappoints compared to the aroma. Mild dark chocolate with a bitter hoppy dry finish. Other than that, not much standing out. Kind of uninspiring. Spab (3759) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - DEC 6, 2011
On tap at Volo. Pours a brownish dark red with small off-white head. Aroma is caramel, slight fruit and grain. Taste is caramel malt, and some sweet grains. Average body and carbonation. Fine but nothing special. blankboy (7662) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - DEC 22, 2009
Cask at ’Volo Cask Days 2009’. Pours a deep amber-red with a small bubbly off-white head. Aroma, which is quite mild, of caramel malt and light grassy hops. Dull flavour of grain, caramel malt and light grassy hops. Average bodied. A dull, mediocre beer.

Cask. At Volo Cask Days 2009. Cloudy deep red with an average lasting frothy off-white head. Grassy and lightly roasty aroma, with crush appleseed bitterness - same in the flavour, only grainier ... average body, slightly bitter finish - pretty non-memorable. radiomgb (2686) - Peterborough, Ontario, CANADA - NOV 3, 2009
Deep amber brown, long lasting tan head, good lacing.
Aroma is quite malty, some chocolate, coffee beans, roasty.
Flavour is quite robust, caramel malt sweetness, some chocolate, moderate bitterness.
Sweet mouthfeel, medium body, medium carbonation.
Finished medium length, chocolate and caramel continue. robinvboyer (4566) - Sturgeon Falls, Ontario, CANADA - NOV 2, 2009
Bigger than expected, good balance. Enjoyable.
Growler from the brewpub.
Opened on January 9, 2009.
Very fresh sample.
Volo Cask Days 2009. Some great sweet malts in the aroma and flavor. A simple session ale, with lots of flavor. Sammy (12079) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - NOV 1, 2009
Volo cask days 2009. This brewer has competent material. Here os a lower IBU ale that is a very drinkable cask. Medium brown colour, a bold taste with a bit of citrus and a little acidic in the finish. This would go well with food. Radek Kliber (7316) - Toronto (Can) Krotoszyn (Pol), POLAND - JUN 1, 2009
Tap @ Volo
Appearance: amber looking brew , light fine haze , light , bright top noted as well.
Nose: earthy base with malty top. Hint of aromatic hop. Good aroma per se but I failed to note Irish character.
Flavor/Palate : Medium bodied with mild centre. Slightly thinner on sides. Some raw bitterness , leafy and citric. In character more to pale ale than malty caramel Irish one. Bah! 12-/20
