2009-02-16. Dark red-brown body with a modest beige head, continuous curtain of beige lace down the glass. Mild tangy malt aroma. (6+) Flavour is similar modest malt core, light caramel, with a decent amount of hops and light citrus touches, mild malt tang. (7+) Bit of an odd herbal note in the finish. Average plus palate. Pretty decent. On tap at Volo, Toronto TheJester (2542) - Cavan Monaghan, Ontario, CANADA - DEC 30, 2008
Growler from the brewery. A lovely shade of copper-red. Virtually no head. Aroma of Euro hops and caramel malt. Flavour is a little fuller and stronger than some other examples of the style I’ve had. (Not that that’s a bad thing). The earthy hops are up front again, along with a little molasses, some bruised apples, and even a little bitter chocolate as it warmed. Not overly sweet. Fairly dry, slightly bitter finish. Medium to low carbonation. Nicely done. JoeMcPhee (9426) - Toronto, ON, Ontario, CANADA - JAN 23, 2014
Can at Tall Boys. Deep amber brown pour with a thick white head. The aroma is quite sweet and toasty. Lift cocoa and brown malt with a bit of light herbal/spicy bitterness in the back. Well-balanced and pretty tasty. Lingering cocoa on the finish. They call this an Irish ale, but it’s a straight-up brown ale; a pretty well-made one at that.

Went to the brewery to grab a growler but of course they were sold out. Bought a couple cans instead. Appearance is clear dark brown with copper around the edges. There is a thin beige head. Aroma is nutty malt. Taste is lightly bitter, with notes of walnut and biscuit. There is a woody hoppiness and a hint of chocolate, caramel and espresso. The body feels light and carbonation is low to moderate, but there is a pleasant mouth coating quality. A tasty brew I look forward to every fall. mabel (9246) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - APR 19, 2009
[1999-20090216] Tap. Lovely toasted chocolate bread aroma. Clear, dark amber brown body with a medium-lasting creamy light tan head. Toasted chocolate-hinted malt flavour has heavy grainy yeast throughout. Medium-full body. Drinkable.

A dark brown color with a nice roasted hop aroma. In the mouth the taste was on the dryer side but wonderful tasteful and refreshing. An excellent growler and highly recommended for all those who can put their hands on it. Cheers. DougShoemaker (3147) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - MAY 19, 2009
Candied malt aroma, hint of chocolate, auburn, small tan head. Flavour has lots of malt, followed by a decent level of fruitiness, mild chocolate notes. Light bodied, yet very well balanced, quite a pleasant mouthfeel, nice bitterness. Great offering. robinvboyer (4656) - Sturgeon Falls, Ontario, CANADA - NOV 2, 2009
Volo Cask Days 2009. Some great sweet malts in the aroma and flavor. A simple session ale, with lots of flavor. Boutip (6374) - Gatineau, Quebec, CANADA - MAR 3, 2009
Bottle: Poured a deep clear burgundy color ale with a small foamy head with OK retention and minimal lacing. Aroma of pure malt with hint of sweetness, minimal hops even though ending is somewhat dry. Taste is also a nice mix between some medium sweet pure malt with a lightly dry ending. Good session ale with no adjunct and and full body. Nothing out of the ordinary but still a well crafted Irish ale. radiomgb (2686) - Peterborough, Ontario, CANADA - NOV 3, 2009
Deep amber brown, long lasting tan head, good lacing.
Aroma is quite malty, some chocolate, coffee beans, roasty.
Flavour is quite robust, caramel malt sweetness, some chocolate, moderate bitterness.
Sweet mouthfeel, medium body, medium carbonation.
Finished medium length, chocolate and caramel continue.
Bigger than expected, good balance. Enjoyable.
Growler from the brewpub.
Opened on January 9, 2009.
Very fresh sample.
