Production moved from Puls Brewery in Pärnu to Viru in early 2008. Formerly known as Puls Tume Kirsiõlu.

Puls kirsiõlu on tume lager-tüüpi õlu, mis on maitsestatud naturaalse kirsisiirupiga. Kirss pehmendab lagerõllele omast humala maitset ja annab meeldiva, kergelt mandlise järelmaitse.

Kauge (1707) - Tallinn, ESTONIA - OCT 15, 2014
Bottle from a Comarket in Tallinn (€ 0,97), Oct 2014; BB Aug 2015. I used to really like this back when we didn’t have any of the craftier stuff around, and Saku Hele was considered the most "hoppy" of all.

Basically this is a Dunkel brewed with (natural) cherry syrup. It pours a dark mahagony with a light tan head that drops rather fast and leaves minimal lacing. Nose... the reviews here should be purely subjective, right? If so, I do kind of even prefer this to the Krieks I’ve had. I mean Krieks tend to have a really overpowering cherry yoghurt aroma (somehow chemical even if they’ve used natural cherries), whereas this one is more like subtle dark cherry sweetness mixing nicely with the slightly caramelly Dunkel malts. Only if I try really hard I get some dank lagerish notes, but this comes through as it’s warmed quite a bit. Taste is again surprisingly not bad - it does have this cheap Dunkel metallic dankness to it, but that is quite well buried in the thick medium sweet dark cherry flavour. It’s got a malty finish with a faint cherry and caramel to go with it. Body and carbonation mediumish, palate slightly dry and metallic, but also sticky.

It may be too one-dimentional but I do think this really isn’t bad enough to deserve a rating of only 13 points (as it is at the time of writing the review), but truth be told, it is the only cherry Dunkel I’ve had so perhaps I’m not the one to tell.
